Disney World rides really are like no other.
And they come in all shapes and sizes, from spinning rides shakers, and safaris and full-on roller coasters. The thing is that nothing lasts forever and will eventually retire, which got us thinking about how many rides will be permanently closing over the next year due to all the changes coming to Disney World. About that, we wanted to find out from you what your takes were on which rides would be next. Well, we asked and you delivered!
We reached out to our followers on Facebook to ask: “We’re losing a lot of rides over the next couple of years. In your opinion, which Disney ride should go next?” We had quite a few people leave their opinions in the comments!
Now, let’s dive into some of your top responses!
Swiss Family Treehouse
Our reader Kristin started us off with, “Swiss Family Treehouse is forgettable. There was a much cooler jungle-themed play area in Disney California Adventure, which might require a bigger footprint, but was more fun than climbing the treehouse.”
Let’s face it, while the Swiss Family Treehouse has its nostalgic appeal, it’s not exactly a “must-visit” for most Disney-goers. Many of you agreed that the space could be reimagined into something more engaging. Could it be time to bid farewell to this relic?
Flying Carpets of Aladdin
Next, Elise pointed out, “Flying Carpets of Aladdin. MK has another spinner ride and it will open up the pathways in Adventureland so people aren’t as squished walking through that area.”
Elise isn’t wrong. Magic Kingdom already has Dumbo (and the Mad Tea Party). Meanwhile, the Flying Carpets can feel a bit redundant and, as Elise mentioned, a bit of a bottleneck for crowds in Adventureland.
Tomorrowland Speedway
It’s no surprise that Tomorrowland Speedway showed up in our poll. Christina named it outright, and Tom doubled down, saying, “The Speedway. So much could be done with that space.”
While the Speedway has its fans, many of you see it as an underwhelming use of valuable Tomorrowland real estate. With electric vehicle technology booming, many of you also feel it’s time to give the Speedway a modern update, or replace it entirely.
Mission: SPACE
Shan put it simply: “Mission space bc I cant ride it…..ever.” (Honestly, Shan, we get it. That ride can get intense!)
For some of you, the simulator’s heavy G-forces make it unapproachable. While not everyone is on board with its closure, Mission: SPACE definitely has a divisive reputation.
“it’s a small world”
Now, this one sparked some controversy. Steven admitted, “Most people probably would disagree with me on this. But I think small world should go. They don’t take care of it really. Mold on the walls, animatronics don’t work, audio issues in sections. Put something cool on that prime real estate.”
That is a bold take. While “it’s a small world” is iconic, some of you agree that its maintenance issues are hard to ignore. Could Disney consider a major overhaul to revive this classic, or is it time to dream bigger for that space?
Under the Sea – Journey of the Little Mermaid
For Dan, it’s all about trading one classic Disney princess for another. He shared, “Little mermaid in MK needs to become the Beauty and the Beast dark ride.”
While the Little Mermaid ride has its fans, Dan’s suggestion isn’t far-fetched. A Beauty and the Beast dark ride, like the one in Tokyo Disneyland, could be an incredible addition to Fantasyland.
Hall of Presidents
Reader Jon kept his feedback short and sweet: “Hall of Presidents!!! 🥱😴😴😴”
Love it or hate it, the Hall of Presidents often divides visitors. Some find it educational and inspiring; others feel it could use a more engaging overhaul, or be replaced with something less “snooze-worthy.”
Journey Into Imagination with Figment
Poor Figment. He’s beloved, but his ride gets no love. Sarah said, “Figment needs a refurb sooooo bad!! Keep some kind of Figment but update it. It’s just sad!” Janie agreed: “Figment!! He deserves so much better!!! Give him a ride worthy of him!”
The message is clear: you don’t want Figment to disappear. Rather, you want him to shine by giving his ride a modern reimagining of this ride to give the whimsical purple dragon the respect he deserves.
Kali River Rapids
Over in Animal Kingdom, Kara made a case for this water ride: “Kali River Rapids! It needs some TLC, vehicle remodel, and possibly retheming. I understand the current theme; it just doesn’t translate well in its current form.”
Between its inconsistent theming and shorter ride experience, Kara and others of you feel Kali River Rapids could use a serious refresh or a whole new concept.

So many good ideas here. My take on some of the comments:
1. Autopia Speedway is ugly. It needs to go.
2. It’s a Small World should be replaced with a Tangled attraction. It’s a Small World needs to be relocated behind Dumb’s Circus. The Magic Kingdom Small World is ugly. The attraction requires a grand show build and entry like California, Paris, and Hong Kong.
3. Voyage of the Little Mermaid is stupid and cheap. It should be rebuild using the Peter Pan’s Flight ride tech. Guests should swim along with Ariel under sea not be stuck in the muck at the bottom of the sea.
4. No one likes Mission: space. Enough said.
5. Hall of Presidents. Did someone say Muppets?
6. Kali River needs to become a Jungle Book attraction. Blow out the back end of the flume and build a show build to add length to the attraction.
7 Bonus: Fantasyland. It’s way overdue to remove the Renaissance overlay. Build a proper Fantasyland villiage like in California.
I agree with all of these except it’s a small world. I’m all for fixing it up (and cleaning it uo) and maybe even modernizing it (depending on how that is done), but it should not be replaced. There is so much space and so many other things that should go first. This salute to the iconic Mary Blair and Marc and Alice Davis deserves to survive. Anyone who knows Disney history knows how important this attraction was to the success at the World’s Fair, and how important that success was to Disney and even the existence of WDW. Forgetting the past doesn’t only mean you could be doomed to repeat it. Forgetting the past can also mean losing the vision and magic that enabled the success in the first place. Disney has done enough damage to their traditional fan base. If they replace iconic classics like IASW, they might have to figure out how to do without that fan base altogether. There’s not much in WDW that should be permanent, but IASW should be.
I agree with most of these. I love Figment and the Little Mermaid, but they could use some love. I would add Nemo and friends as a ride that needs to be replaced.
I still say Speedway needs work. It would be the best location for the new Cars theme. There’s loads of room and would create a whole lot of interest. The Hall of Presidents I do enjoy watching but does need a change. Since Walt Disney admires President Lincoln so much it would be interesting to have both of them doing speeches instead Intro’s to each President is ok but sometimes when a name is announced have a problem locating them. The rest of the rides are ok.
While I agree with most of these good ideas, “It’s a Small World” has an iconic history. It should be given the love Walt put into creating it – a total refresh and update back to its original glory. It needs more than just a good cleaning for sure, but some attractions should be given a special legacy status and not removed. We need to remember that there was a man behind the mouse.
What they should do with Small World is add the drop shown in the Tomorrowland movie and transport you to, well, Tomorrowland! 😆
They should use the space that has been empty for sooo long. The Alien Encounter/Stitch should become a Wallee ride. Perfect seating for being on the cruise ship🌱
