We’re so close to the end of hurricane season for the year, but not without a little more excitement.
Hurricane season in Florida runs through the end of November, but as we are still in the middle of the month, there’s still a chance that new storms could pop up. And unfortunately, that’s exactly what the NHC is concerned about. A new area of interest has appeared in the Caribbean that has a chance of impacting Florida in the next week or so.

Invest 99-L has an extremely high chance of developing into a tropical depression over the next two to seven days, according to the NHC. It continues to produce disorganized showers and thunderstorms over the Caribbean Sea with environmental conditions that are conducive for development. There is a 90% chance that a tropical depression will form, and it is expected to slowly turn north next week after strengthening as it continues west in the Caribbean over the weekend.
According to WESH News, long-range models show that the storm may move toward Florida. However, the exact path is still currently unknown. Models show it impacting different points along the Florida coast, but more tracking and modeling will continue to be done to get a more exact path.
Tropical models only go out so far in time, so I wanted to post the global models.
Clearly a thing we need to watch if trends continue… timing would be next week… pic.twitter.com/Jm4jbqzSv2— Eric Burris (@EricBurrisWESH) November 13, 2024
If this system does develop into a named storm, it will be call Sara. It is certainly a system to watch and potentially prepare for. If you’ll be in the Florida area next week, keep monitoring the weather and watch for any updates.
Regardless of if this storm does develop and impact Orlando, we always recommend packing rain gear for your Disney World vacation. Rain is always a possibility in Florida, so having an umbrella, poncho, or shoe coverings with is a great way to be prepared in case the inevitable happens. Those heading to Disney World next week, be sure you’re keeping tabs on the weather, but also know that in the case of a hurricane, Disney World is well prepared.
