Planning a Disney World trip during the Atlantic hurricane season can be a roll of the dice.
Just last month, Hurricane Debby made its way across Florida, bringing major rain and wind to the Sunshine State. The National Hurricane Center has been monitoring two more potential disturbances in the Atlantic — and we’re sharing the latest updates you might need to know ahead of your next visit.
As of the morning of Monday, September 2nd, the National Hurricane Center is tracking three “areas of interest” in the Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean Sea, and the Gulf of Mexico to determine the chances of each disturbance developing, WESH news reports.
A tropical wave in the Caribbean is hitting Puerto Rico and the surrounding areas with disorganized thunderstorms and gusty winds. As the storm reaches the western Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico later this week, a tropical depression could form. Formation chances are near 0% right now, but jump to 40% over the next seven days, which is considered “medium.”
A second low-pressure area is being tracked, this time in the Gulf of Mexico just off the coast of Texas. The National Hurricane Center expects the system to potentially develop if it stays offshore long enough — possibly moving inland on Tuesday. Heavy rains and flash flooding could be possible over the next few days. Right now, formation chances are sitting around 10%.
And, there is a third area of disturbance off the coast of Africa in the Atlantic that is producing thunderstorms and disorganized showers. A tropical depression could form over the next few days with the chances being low at 10% for now, and later increasing to 40% as the week continues.
As of right now, none of these storms are a direct threat to Disney World but we’ll be on the lookout for any major changes.
If you’re visiting Disney World during a storm, don’t let the rain and wind put a damper on your day! Bring your rain gear, an extra pair of shoes, and a positive attitude as a rainy day at Disney World can be a fantastic day. Be patient with Cast Members and understand that some attractions may not be operating and certain entertainment offerings may also be canceled or modified. But there is still so much to do and you can often enjoy lower crowds during a rainy day at Disney World.
In the meantime, we’ll continue to monitor any potential storms and weather disturbances that could impact your next Disney World trip. Make sure you stay tuned to Disney Food Blog as we bring you the latest news, updates, tips, and more!
