Hurricane Debby, upgraded from Tropical Storm Debby, has made landfall in the Florida Big Bend Region, and with it has come storms across Florida.
While the theme parks in Orlando are still open and operating, the Orlando International Airport (MCO) is having a rougher time. If you’re flying into or out of Orlando today, August 5th, be prepared for some flight changes!
On August 6th, we reported that over 200 flights were either canceled or delayed at MCO with Southwest Airlines being impacted the most. Those delays and cancellations occurred before Hurricane Debby (then Tropical Storm Debby) made landfall.
Now today, August 5th, Hurricane Debby is over the land in Northern Florida, but Orlando and many others areas are feeling its affects. Tornado warnings and watches have been issued and flooding is possible. By around 9:30AM, MCO had over 100 delays and over 200 cancelations for the day with the number likely to grow as the day goes on.
Again, today, Southwest Airlines is taking the largest hit on both delays and cancelations with American Airlines and JetBlue right behind them.
On days like this, it is crucial that you stay aware of your flights status. Many airlines offer text updates or updates via their app. As changes occur, airlines will send out notifications. If you have a flight change, be sure to talk with the airline to sort out new travel plans.
Currently, the Orlando Airport does remain open and operational, so keeping an eye on your flight is important!
