There is a lot that goes into planning a Disney World vacation. Not only do you need to find a hotel and purchase tickets, but you also need to worry about how you are actually going to get there. Flying into the Orlando International Airport is a popular option, but we want to make sure you are getting the best prices on your flight tickets.
Hopper has released information about the best time to book flights to make sure you are getting the best deal. And one of these deadlines is fast approaching!
If you are planning on traveling on a holiday, pay attention to these dates so you are not overpaying for your flights. While you still have time to book travel for most of the major holidays, one booking deadline is coming up TOMORROW! If you are planning on traveling for Juneteenth on June 19th, you will want to book your plane tickets by May 1st. Here is a look at the full list of deadlines for the rest of the year:
- Juneteenth (June 19th): Book by May 1st
- July 4th: Book by June 1st
- Labor Day (September 2nd): Book by August 9th
- Indigenous Peoples’ Day (October 14th): Book by August 15th
- Veteran’s Day (November 11th): Book by September 21st
- Thanksgiving (November 28th): Book by October 31st
- Christmas (December 25th): Book by October 31st
- New Year’s Eve (December 31st): Book by December 1st
While you can still book tickets after these dates have passed, Hopper thinks these are the best deadlines to make sure you are getting the best deals. If you know when you will be traveling, start checking out and monitoring flights. Here are a few more tips to make sure you are getting the best pricing.
When Should You Fly?
Sometimes you have the option to choose when you will be traveling. We have a few tips on when you should plan travel for the lowest ticket prices. Some days of the week have been found to be cheaper, on average, to travel. For example, NerdWallet found that, “for economy tickets, Tuesdays are about 24% lower than peak prices on Sundays, which translates to savings of about $85 per ticket.” CNN also found that Tuesdays and Wednesdays are often the best days to travel. So, if you are able to travel on a Tuesday or Wednesday, you may be able to find cheaper tickets.
There are also certain periods of the year that are better to travel. You will want to avoid some big travel seasons, like around the holidays in November and December, or during summer travel months like June and July. If you are flexible on your travel, the best months to fly are January and February. The holidays have passed, and we haven’t started up with spring break or summer travel yet.
When is the Best Time to Book?
Now that we have decided on when to travel, let’s also take a look at the best time to book your flight. Airline prices are constantly changing from the minute they become available up until the flight departs. If you are able, we recommend keeping an eye on flight prices to see the trends. You can watch the prices for about a week or so to get a general idea of what may be the highest and lowest prices. You can also take advantage of apps such as Hopper or Kayak to help you monitor prices. These apps can alert you when a ticket price changes, and also provide you insight on when to book a flight and when to wait to see if prices decrease.
You will likely be able to secure the best prices between about one to three months before your departure date. If you book earlier or later than that, you may be paying more than you should. Also, pay attention to cancellation policies, so you know what your options might be if you end up finding a cheaper flight later on. We also have 50 tips that will help make travel easier, and you can watch that video right here!
If you are hoping to travel on Juneteenth, now is the time to make your flight reservations! It is likely that after May 1st, you will be paying more for the same tickets. Also, make sure to stay tuned to DFB for more travel news!
