NEW MAP Hints at Roller Coaster Coming to Disney’s Mysterious Theme Park Expansion

Shanghai Disney Resort has kept itself pretty busy these last few years, and it looks like it has no intention of slowing down!

The park opened a new Zootopia-themed land in 2023, and another new theme park expansion may be in the works! Although not much information has been released about that teased expansion, new updates show that it might actually be coming to fruition at Shanghai Disneyland. Shanghai Disney Resort recently shared construction designs for the preliminary planning stages of a new theme park area, and the designs look promising.

Disney shared that “initial preparation work for construction” has begun. We saw a municipal land report that appears to show the new area will be adjacent to Zootopia Land. Even more exciting, the planning maps seem to detail a new roller coaster!

While Disney has been mum on the theming of the new land, we do have some information regarding its new roller coaster!

Per the report, the ride features a forward AND backward launch as well as a loading station in the center of the building and a souvenir shop at the front.

This attraction was announced in March, but details — such as theming — remain private. However, another project, Shanghai Disney’s third hotel, is still in construction and we do know a little bit about that.

According to Disney, the hotel is located on the shores of Wishing Star Lake, will offer indoor and outdoor recreational amenities, and is influenced by “Art Nouveau architecture and design” while paying homage to “Shanghai’s unique early 20th-century architectural legacy.”
