We’ve all been getting ready for this very random day in April.
We heard something about an eclipse, so we dashed over to Magic Kingdom to say hi to our pal Sonny Eclipse! We shortly realized that was probably not what the fuss has been about these past few days. Instead, there’s a much more exciting solar event happening today (sorry, Sonny) — here’s what you need to know if you’ll be in the parks during it.
As many of you likely know, today, April 8th, there will be a solar eclipse that makes a path over the U.S., and we are excited to tell you that you may get to see it in Disney World!
Unfortunately, the path of the total solar eclipse will not cross Orlando, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy a partial eclipse! According to Matt Devitt from WINK News on X, Orlando will begin to see the eclipse around 1:47 PM with the peak being at 3:03 PM. During that time, it will be 57% eclipsed. The eclipse will end at 4:13 PM.
SOLAR ECLIPSE TIMES IN FLORIDA 🌖
Tomorrow afternoon is the eclipse, here's a helpful guide across the state! Don't expect a major difference or darkness like they'll see from Texas to Ohio to Maine, but it will get a bit dimmer outside with a potential small temp drop. Devitt also mentions that Orlando will likely not see a significant difference in darkness, but it may get a little dimmer outside. Also, remember to not look directly at the eclipse with your naked eye. If you want to see it, be sure to use a telescope or special glasses. If you don’t have either of those, you can see the eclipse by looking at a tree’s shadow on the ground.

We checked with guest services in Magic Kingdom today to ask if they have any special glasses for guests to use during the eclipse times, but unfortunately, they do not. So if you’re headed into the parks today, be sure to bring your own glasses or do not look at the eclipse. But you can stare at Sonny Eclipse at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe for as long as you want. 😉
We hope you enjoy this special event, today! We’ll be keeping an eye on the sky (with our special glasses) and watching for more Disney news, so keep following DFB!
