At the 2023 Destination D23 event at Disney’s Contemporary Resort in Disney World, we learned that Star Tours, the ride in Hollywood Studios and Disneyland, would be receiving some new updates.
Over the years, this simulator ride and the show at its premise have undergone several changes, including new characters and new missions. Well, the day has finally come. This classic Star Wars ride that was created by Disney and Lucasfilm is getting another upgrade. Let’s take a look at what you might experience the next time you take a ride on Star Tours in Disney’s Hollywood Studios!
When Disney announced the upcoming changes to the ride they shared that characters from the new Disney+ series Ahsoka, Andor, and The Mandalorian would be joining the adventures. We’re super excited to see Ahsoka, Andor, Mando, and Grogu making their way to this state-of-the-art simulated Starspeeder flight!
WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD! Skip reading if you want to be surprised the next time you ride!
When we first boarded the ship, ah ride, we noticed there weren’t any immediate changes. The opening scene was one we’ve seen before and featured Darth Vader. After we launched out of the Star Tours port, we went to Hoth — which isn’t new either. From here is where it changed! We sped into space and ran into Din Djarin and Grogu (A.K.A. the Mandalorian and Baby Yoda).
Din Djarin gave us a little speech about needing our help, and Grogu grabbed one of his favorite snacks (IYKYK), took a bite — then proceeded to spit it out directly at us thanks to that 3D effect.
From there, we ran into Ahsoka and saw some Purrgil featured in Ahsoka and Star Wars Rebels — you might know them as space whales! Ahsoka then appeared on the screen to the side and spoke to us before we fought alongside her for a bit. Then, we were launched back into space and came back to the Star Tours spaceport! Ahsoka told us we had done a nice job and said, “Safe travels, good to see you again R-2,” and the ride was over.
Disney shared that there are also scenes featuring Cassian Andor, but we haven’t spotted those yet — we’ll be sure to update you when we do!
Cast Members shared that during the initial rollout, riders should be able to see a combination of a new scene, new planet, and new transmission featuring Mando, Cassian, or Ahsoka!
These upgrades were totally worth the wait! We can’t wait to go on more adventures with the classic and new characters again. Star Tours is located next to Backlot Express on your walk toward Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. You can’t miss the giant AT-AT out front! So, be sure to head over to Hollywood Studios soon to check out these changes for yourself.
