NEWS: A Popular Show Was CANCELED After Two Seasons on Apple TV+

Okay, so it seems like a LOT of TV shows are getting canceled these days.

Now, TV show cancelations are normal, but is it just us, or does it seem like we’ve seen a lot more over the past year? Disney has already canceled more than eight shows within the past few months. Long-running shows are getting the axe. Now, a show on Apple TV+ just got the boot.

The Apple TV+ series Schmigadoon has been canceled after just two seasons. Cinco Paul, the show’s co-creator, shared the news on Instagram:

“I am sad to share that Apple will not be moving forward with Season 3 of Schmigadoon!” he wrote. “The season is written (including 25 new songs) but we unfortunately won’t be making it. Such is life. I want to thank everyone involved with the show, our incredible cast and crew and writers, our wonderful supporters at Broadway Video, Universal and Apple, for everything they did to make it happen. It’s a miracle we even got two seasons, honestly, and I’m so grateful we did.”

Schmigadoon featured a cast of celebrities, including Keegan-Michael Key, Cecily Strong, Dove Cameron, Ariana DeBose, Jaime Camil, Kristin Chenoweth, Alan Cumming, Ann Harada, Jane Krakowski, Aaron Tveit, Tituss Burgess, Patrick Page, and Martin Short.

The show follows two New York doctors who go on a backpacking trip and end up in Schmigadoon, a lost town straight out of a 1950s musical.

Yep, the show was a musical, which meant it had a bit of a cult following. It was also nominated for several Emmy awards and won one. That said, the show’s audience and Emmy award weren’t enough for Apple TV+ to renew it for a third season, though. Here’s the full statement from Paul:

Interestingly, it seems the third season is already written, so perhaps the series might live on somewhere else. Maybe another streaming service will pick it up; in fact, it’s become common for other streaming sites to pick up canceled shows and run with them. So we’ll have to see how things play out for Schmigadoon.
