The past 25 years have turned up a LOT of interesting trends.
It’s probably no secret that a lot of people are hitting up Google to search for things like Stanley Cups, Taylor Swift, and Barbie — just in 2023. But it might surprise you that some of your favorite celebrities have been searched so often that they’ve literally made Internet history.
So, believe it or not, Google first opened its doors to the world 25 years ago. To celebrate, Google released its top searches for 2023 but also unveiled a video looking back over searches that have taken place throughout the past 25 years. That is a LOT of searches. For example, the most searched decade is the 80s, while the most searched toy is…you guessed it…Barbie!

But what’s the most searched Movie Cast of the past 25 years? Well, that honor goes to the cast of the Harry Potter movies, which means the stars of the film franchise have made Internet history! Yes, there have been more searches for actors Daniel Radcliff, Emma Watson, Tom Felton, Rupert Grint, Maggie Smith, Alan Rickman, and other members of the Harry Potter cast than for any other movie cast IN history.

If you’re curious about other Internet searches throughout history, the most searched songwriter in 25 years is Taylor Swift (are you surprised?). The most searched cartoon is Spongebob Squarepants.
