It’s SO hard to get into TV series these days because we never know when they might be canceled.
That’s particularly true with Disney shows, especially since we’ve seen MANY shows get canceled this year, including The Wonder Years, National Treasure, and more. Well, it’s time to add ANOTHER show to the list because Disney just canceled a Disney Channel series.
According to Deadline, Disney Channel’s Bunk’d will end with its seventh season. The series is one of Disney Channel’s longest-running live-action series, but it’s coming to an end with its upcoming seventh season. Bunk’d was a spinoff of the popular series Jessie, which saw a brother and sister team leave their New York penthouse for a summer camp in Maine.
Work on the seventh season was suspended earlier in 2023 due to the WGA strike, with 12 episodes of the 20-episode season already filmed. Disney Channel has ordered a total of 22 episodes for the final season, though, meaning those episodes are currently being filmed.
Season 7 premiered on July 23rd, 2023, with part 1 (which featured 12 episodes) completing its run on December 1st. The final 10 episodes will premiere in 2024, although Disney has not yet set a specific date.
“With a fantastic cast of characters and hilarious and heartful storylines, it’s no wonder Bunk’d has been one of Disney Channel’s longest running and successful live action series,” Ayo Davis, President of Disney Branded Television said in a statement. “We’d like to thank our talented cast, creative team and crew for bringing tremendous joy and laughter to kids for seven incredible seasons.”
Bunk’d generally did very well for Disney Channel. Part 1 of Season 7 was one of the top live-action series watched by kids aged 6 to 11 — and that includes both streaming and TV platforms. It does seem as if it will get an actual send-off finale, though, so at least fans will get closure before the series is gone for good.
We’ll keep an eye out for more TV cancellations, so stay tuned to DFB for more.
