We’ve been getting our 🎶Jingle Bell Rock🎶 on at Jollywood Nights in Hollywood Studios!
But after taking in the Muppets holiday variety show and jazzy, Hollywood soiree, it’s time to grab something to eat!
Tonight, we headed over to the Dockside Diner and from the looks of their holiday offerings, there’s a little something for everyone!
We spy with our little eye, something sweet, something savory, something plant-based, and something a little spicy! Saddle up your reindeer, folks, it’s time to sleigh our way over to Dockside Diner to see what this is all about!
Spicy Pimento-Kimchi Dip
First up is the “something a little spicy”: Spicy Pimento-Kimchi Dip. This dish is topped with chives and served with fresh house-made wonton chips.
This is a unique fusion of classic foods combining the savory soul food classic and a popular Korean condiment. Pimento Cheese — traditionally made with shredded Cheddar, mayonnaise, and pimentos. It’s commonly served with crackers and vegetables or as a sandwich filling. Kimchi is a traditional Korean dish made with salted and fermented vegetables, usually cabbage with ginger and garlic and some Korean chili flake (gochugaru) for a little kick. So does this marriage of Korean + Southern cuisine deliver? Well, we sure loved it! It’s creamy and has a very mild spice to it. The topping is the only bit of kimchi that we could find on the dish, and it has a bit of acidity to it like you’d find in slaw. You can grab this dish at Dockside Diner for $4.99.
Roasted Eggplant Dip
Next up, “something plant-based”: the Roasted Eggplant Dip. This is topped with chives and served with warm pita bread.
This plant-based option is basically a Baba Ganoush and don’t let the simplicity of the concept fool you. This has the smooth, smokey base of the eggplant, the creaminess of tahini, some zesty lemon juice, and richness of olive oil. Smooth that over some warm pita bread, and your mouth will thank you — trust us. It almost has the texture of refried beans, and is so good. It’s on the salty side, and combined with the bread, it’s a game changer. You can grab this dish at Dockside Diner for $4.99.
Poutine Tots
Now onto “something savory”! You had us at Poutine… wait, maybe you had us at Tots. Ok, let’s get real, this combo is right up our alley and there’s NO way we’re gonna miss out on this!
Disney describes this dish as potato barrels topped with gravy, brisket, mozzarella curds, and chives. Is there anything in this recipe line up that’s NOT to like? Well, we were a bit disappointed with this dish. The flavors and textures just didn’t work together as well as we wanted them to. The curds were also rubbery — which added an unpleasant texture to the dish. The brisket was inconsistent — good in some places but not so great in others. The tots were just regular ol’ tots. You can grab this dish at Dockside Diner for $6.49.
Christmas Tree Cookie Stack
And last but not least, our “something sweet”: The Christmas Tree Cookie Stack.
A stack of cookies? Yes, please! Vanilla cookie stack filled with pistachio buttercream, cranberry, and raspberry jam topped with sprinkles and a yellow candy star. This was interesting! The pistachio flavor was definitely there, but was very subtle. The cookie was vanilla-flavored but we picked up on some notes of cinnamon. The cranberries were nice and sweet! This treat his easily sharable, and you can grab it at Dockside Diner for $5.29.
Oh, have you worked up a thirst with all of these tasty snacks? Let’s see what they have to drink!
Sandy Claws Hot Cocoa
This seems appropriately named since some of The Nightmare Before Christmas characters have been let loose in Hollywood Studios to host their own Jollywood Nights entertainment This is a “Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas”-inspired dark chocolate hot cocoa topped with cherry whipped cream.
It’s a DELICIOUS drink. It’s thick, creamy, and tastes like real hot chocolate — not the packaged stuff. The cherry whipped cream tastes more like grenadine than tart cherry, and it works well with the hot chocolate. You can grab this dish at Dockside Diner for $4.99.
So, we’ve sipped, savored, nibbled, and delighted over the holiday treats at Dockside Diner during the Jollywood Nights event and let you know which of these menu items are worth a detour in your party plans to snag, and which ones you may want to pass on for other party options.
