The actor strike has been ongoing for quite a while now.
We’ve seen countless movies postponed or even canceled due to this ongoing fight between SAG-AFTRA and film companies. All studios have felt the effects of this push for labor rights, including Walt Disney Studios. Now, during the fourth quarter earnings call for the Walt Disney Company, we get to hear what CEO Bob Iger has to say on the subject.
Snow White and Elio are among the Disney movies that have been impacted by the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike going on in Hollywood, both being delayed by a year.
So, how does Bob Iger feel about the current situation? We found out during an interview with CNBC prior to the Q4 earnings call that happened recently. When asked about the effects on the Disney company, Iger started by saying, “I have the utmost respect for actors — they are incredibly important to us for obvious reasons.”
He continued by saying that he feels “optimistic that we’ll figure that out relatively soon.” This is a perspective differing from his previous one when he had stated that an actors’ strike was “disturbing” and that their demands were “unrealistic.“
Iger mentioned that, up to this point, the impact on the business has been “negligible.” However, he did caution that if the strike continues, they could start seeing a significant impact. We’ll be interested to see what comes in the near future as the strike continues.
