Tiana’s Palace is officially open in Disneyland!
This new concept features New Orleans-style eats and all sorts of nods to The Princess and the Frog. And, while we’re thrilled about it, it meant we had to say goodbye to a familiar favorite. So, come with us to check out just what’s changed at the French Market Restaurant.
Disneyland’s French Market Restaurant used to serve up Cajun-influenced meals and lots of atmosphere! Soups were served in sourdough bowls, and Signature Po’ Boy sandwiches and entrees like Jambalaya used to be found here. But, when Disney announced that Tiana’s Palace was coming — it meant the end for French Market. Both restaurants boast New Orleans-style menus, so let’s see what Disney has done to transform the space — starting with the entrance.
Disney has kept much of the same New Orleans-inspired elements, like this wrought iron sign that now says Tiana’s Palace, and features her lotus flower icon as well.
The French Market featured a door with a stand where you could go pick up your Mobile Order from a Cast Member…
…but now there is a dedicated Mobile Order Pickup Window. You can also see how Disney has transformed the exterior from a brick facade to an orange stucco reminiscent of those in the French Quarter.
There was a large courtyard outside The French Market covered by green canopies, and that has since changed.
Now you’ll find festive green and yellow awnings with bistro string lights throughout for some extra oomph.
Moving to the interior of the restaurant, it’s set up pretty similarly — not much has changed in terms of the layout.
But, you will find a whole lot more pizzazz inside Tiana’s Palace. The ceiling has been transformed to look like the night sky through an ornate skylight with blue light shining through. More of those bistro lights have been added inside as well, creating the vibe that you’re smack dab in the middle of New Orleans.
Here’s a look at the counter service line for The French Market, with orange tiles floors, and more brickwork…
…but Tiana’s has been updated to include a black and white checkered floor and white brick instead. You can also see some of the Princess and the Frog theming reflected in the kick drum from Firefly Lou’s band!
As you can see, the ceiling concept is still there but has just been updated to fit the Tiana’s Palace theming. Not only that, but the middle area has been transformed into a…
…beignet making station! These are modeled after a lemon icebox pie, with a tart filling and lemon glaze. You can watch the “action station” inside the restaurant where the chefs fill the beignets.
They’re a great combination of tart and sweet, and the filling is super smooth. They’re not greasy at all. We thought they were fresh and delicious, and we can’t wait to have them again! Beignets will be the only dessert offered at Tiana’s Palace (for now).
