It’s been a massive week for Disney news.
In a presentation entitled “Creating Happiness: The Art & Science of Disney Parks Storytelling,” Josh D’Amaro (Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products) shared some exciting technology that could have a huge effect on the future of theme park experiences. We saw a rollerblading robot bunny that can do somersaults, we learned about some of the authentic aspects of creating Galaxy’s Edge, and the Hulk even shared his plans to go to Disneyland Paris. But one of our favorite developments from the conference was MUCH smaller.
During his presentation, D’Amaro brought a tiny, life-like, stuck-in-a-lantern Tinker Bell on stage! After inviting a colleague on stage to ask her a question, we got to see how realistic her reactions and responses were.

When D’Amaro’s colleague shares his surprise at how real she looks — she even responded ““Of course I am! I’m a fairy!” As if watching this interaction wasn’t impressive enough, we actually got to TALK to her!

We couldn’t help but push her buttons a little bit and asked her how she felt about Wendy. True to her usual attitude of jealousy, Tink said “it’s complicated” and then shared a fun interaction about that first time they met. So impressive! Her reactions are so life-like and not delayed at all, it was such a thrill to see this technology firsthand.
While we loved to see Tink get her moment, and think it would be amazing to see this type of character interaction in the parks — Disney has shared that this is a “Blue Sky” project, meaning it’s still under development and there’s no guarantee that this will be rolled out one day. We can only hope for now!
We’ll keep our eyes peeled for any new developments on this and other Disney technology news, so stay tuned to DFB for more!
