You’re Not Gonna Like the NEW Starbucks Rewards Changes

We hate to be the bearer of bad news… but today our reminder to you is not so magical.

Less than magical…

If you start your day off with the caffeinated magic sold on Main Street, U.S.A. (or any other Starbucks) you’ll want to pay attention! If you frequent Starbucks often, you probably use the Starbucks app which doubles as a rewards program. These rewards have been awesome in the past, allowing customers to collect stars and get food and drinks for free!

On February 13th, 2023, Starbucks will be updating their rewards program. The amount of stars needed to receive free food and beverages has DOUBLED for some items.

Sadly we can’t resist a Starbucks trip

Previously, customers got one star per $1 spent, or two stars per $1 spent on a preloaded Starbucks card. Before February 13th, you can get a hot coffee or tea, or a bakery item for 50 stars. For 150 stars, you could get a handcrafted drink, hot breakfast, or a parfait.

After February 13th, this system as we know it will be no more! It will now take 100 stars to get a hot tea, hot coffee, or bakery item. This will require guests to spend more money in order to get these things, but the good news is that iced coffees and iced teas will be added to this tier that requires 100 stars.

However, cold brews, lattes, and hot breakfast items will now require 200 stars, while lunch items will cost 300 stars! That’s $50-$100 more that must be spent in order to receive a free sandwich. Huh?

Are we saddened by this change? A little. Will it stop us from going to Starbucks every morning? Probably not!

We’ll still be having our morning Starbucks!
