‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ Set to Become the World’s BIGGEST Movie Of the Year

Disney has a HUGE hit film on its hands with Avatar: The Way of Water.

The film returns us to the world of Pandora (the planet, not the land in Animal Kingdom BASED on the planet) for an all-new story about the Na’vi. In celebration of the movie, we’ve had new foods in Disney World, as well as a fun Snapchat filter that turns you INTO a Na’vi. In the end, the film has been such a success that it could the biggest movie in the world this year!

According to Variety, Avatar: The Way of Water has surpassed $1.1 billion at the global box office. This puts it in place to potentially become the highest-grossing international release of 2022, a position previously held by Top Gun: Maverick. The movie is also just one of SIX films in ALL OF HISTORY to ever make $1 billion globally during its first two weeks — that’s quite an accomplishment!

In the U.S., the film took in $337.8 million, with an international total of $762.8 million. By comparison, Top Gun: Maverick made $770 million internationally, but it’s expected that Avatar: The Way of Water will beat that amount soon, although it may not beat out the Top Gun sequel in the U.S.

This is even more impressive when you consider how the global box office is struggling — at the moment, U.S. films aren’t getting released in Russia due to the invasion of Ukraine and China isn’t releasing as many U.S. movies in its theaters.

So overall, it looks like Avatar: The Way of Water is a hit for Disney, although it had a rocky initial release. If you haven’t seen it yet, you can still catch it in theaters!
