It’s a bird, it’s a plane, NO — it’s the Brightline high-speed train!
And, it’s coming to an airport near you — well, if you live near Orlando International Airport (MCO), that is. The new train route will take guests from MCO to stops throughout the city (and near Disney World!) and now, we’re one step closer to being able to climb aboard!
The Brightline train coming to Orlando has completed an important milestone: full-speed testing of the new train route! According to the Orlando Business Journal, the company ran trains up to 79 mph earlier this month, but in Martin and St. Lucie counties the test speeds have reached 110 mph.
This likely makes Brightline the fastest train to ever operate in the state. The expansion will bring high speed trains to more parts of Florida, including Tampa, and officials hope the Brightline service between Tampa and Orlando will help “reshape intercity travel dramatically between the two cities.”
Currently, Brightline runs 17 trains per day between Miami and West Palm Beach, and the company plans on adding more stations throughout the state — though no plans have been confirmed.
Catch the train testing in the video below:
Brightline’s first 110-mph train tests are happening this morning between Jensen Beach and Port St. Lucie.
Here’s the first train, which is only going about 80 mph, as it passed Walton Road.
