When you go to Disney World, you have to prepare for a lot of things.
Ride closures, severe weather, transportation closures — all of these things could complicate your trip. It’s currently hurricane season for the Atlantic runs started in June and ends on November 30th, and since the summer we’ve seen quite a few storms. Right now, a new storm is headed towards Florida.
As of the morning of November 7th, subtropical storm Nicole is headed for Florida. The projected path for the newly formed storm is that it will arrive at Florida’s east coast by Wednesday night. By this time, the storm is expected to be near hurricane strength, according to the National Hurricane Center.
The center of Nicole is expected to arrive at the northwestern Bahamas where it will then make its way to Florida.
Currently Nicole is a subtropical storm with 40 mph winds as far out as 275 miles. Experts predict that the storm will transition to a tropical system with higher wind speeds within 2-3 days. According to the Orlando Sentinel, National Hurricane Center senior hurricane specialist Robbie Berg said, “It’s not out of the question for Nicole to reach hurricane strength, especially given how warm the waters are in the vicinity of the Bahamas.”
UPDATE: Several parts of Central Florida including Disney World are under Tropical Storm Watch until November 10th. This means that Tropical Storm conditions are possible in the next 48 hours.

Berg also commented on what to expect like “significant wind, storm surge and rainfall impacts over a large portion of the northwestern Bahamas, Florida, and the southeastern coast of the United States during much of the upcoming week.” So what should you do if you’re going to Disney World this week?
The storm is expected to impact Central Florida by mid-week, so you should expect to experience some rain. Pack your ponchos and extra pair of shoes and socks in the parks with you to stay dry. You should also bring some food back to your hotel room just in case.
Also, keep an eye on the weather forecast to prepare yourself for the weather. If you see a bad patch of weather coming up, you may want to find shelter or go back to your hotel room.
We’ll continue to watch the projected path and bring you the latest updates on subtropical storm Nicole.
