Hurricane Ian is expected to make landfall in Florida today, first along the southern part of the west coast. Its current path has the storm moving across Central Florida before leaving the state sometime on Thursday, according to experts.
In response to the storm, Disney World, Universal Orlando, and other Florida theme parks have closed on Wednesday and Thursday. Some airports have also closed, and hurricane watches and warnings are in place in many counties. Now, we have an update on the Disney Cruise Line’s plans for the coming days.
On Monday, September 26th, the Disney Cruise Line noted that they were carefully monitoring Hurricane Ian and would modify sailings as needed. Now, Disney has confirmed that the September 30th sailing of the Disney Wish has been canceled.
This cancelation comes due to the weather conditions forecasted for Port Canaveral and Central Florida. The current sailing of the Disney Wish may also be extended to Saturday (October 1st) or Sunday in order for the ship to avoid the storm.
UPDATE: As of Friday, September 30th, Port Canaveral is still closed. The port is waiting for an update from the US Coast Guard before they will reopen.
At this time Port Canaveral remains closed at Port Condition ZULU pending an update from the U.S. Coast Guard Captain of the Port. All visitors to the Port and tenants are reminded not to return until damage assessments have been completed.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, Hurricane Ian is now a Category 5 hurricane with sustained winds of 155MPH. This morning at 9AM EST, “the National Hurricane Center said the center of Ian was located about 60 miles west of Naples and 70 miles southwest of Punta Gorda and 185 miles south-southwest of Orlando moving north-northeast at 10MPH.”
There are currently tornado warnings throughout much of Central Florida, and Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Polk, and Lake counties are under hurricane warnings as well. High winds and flooding are likely in this area.
