Disney has partnered up with many designers for some epic merchandise collections.
We’ve seen Disney collaborate with Coach, Gucci, Vera Wang, and even more, and now Disney is partnering with a fashion brand that’s all about sustainability — and they will debut their first collaboration exclusively at the D23 Expo!
Disney is now partnering with Bentgablenits for a sustainable fashion line that will debut at the D23 Expo this September! This collection will feature Mickey Mouse garments made from materials that otherwise may have ended up in a landfill.
The name “Bentgablenits” comes from the names of the individuals involved in this project, including Brenda Bent, Karen Gable, and Angelo Nitsopopoolus. They each have a diverse background in fashion design and they originally set out to “work on vintage iconic brands and upcycle them into trendy new pieces.” They achieved so much success that they decided to start collaborating with other companies!
For this Disney collection, the Bentgablenits designers set out with the idea of “dressing Mickey up.” They looked for individual garments and tried to upcycle all materials, including trims and embellishments. In case you didn’t know, upcycling means taking something that is no longer being used and sprucing it up for a new use. For example, these designers source garments that already exist and redesign them into new pieces.
The Bentgablenits designers described Mickey Mouse as the “OG icon,” and they said that “Disney values sustainability” and that they wanted to partner with a company that cares about the environment. They collected tops with Mickey in the same pose, and some tops have added elements (such as materials making Mickey’s ears fuzzy), as well as hand-dyed flowers and appliqués.
The Bentgablenits x Disney collection drops at the D23 Expo this September, and after that who knows! The D23 Expo lasts from September 9th through the 11th in California at the Anaheim Convention Center, where all kinds of exclusive merchandise will be available for ticket holders. Tickets have already sold out, but you can follow along with the Expo via their livestream!
