Disney’s Animal Kingdom is home to attractions like Flight of Passage, Expedition Everest, and of course, Kilimanjaro Safaris.
But, have you ever wondered what happens to all of the animals you see on the safari when Florida gets a little chilly?! Animal Kingdom Cast Members recently shared an inside look at their cold-weather game plan — and we’re sharing it with you!
There are over 2,000 animals living at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, from 300 different species! And sometimes, Disney has to figure out what to do with all of those animals when Florida gets the rare cold front.
According to an interview with the Orlando Sentinel, Dr. Scott Terrell, director of animal and science operation for the parks, stated that Disney chooses “animals to share with our guests that are appropriate for the climate that we have here in Florida.”
Even still, sometimes Disney has to make a backup plan when the temps drop in Orlando.
Animals at the park are given access to indoor spaces, or the Cast Members do their best to make sure the animals are not exposed to “the extremes of the elements.” On rare occasions, though, Disney makes the choice for the animals. Dr. Terrell said that’s usually a last resort, as they prefer to let the animals choose what makes them comfortable.
We’ll just be over here imagining lions in sweaters. We’re always keeping an eye out for inside peeks into the Disney magic, so be sure to check back here for more Disney news and updates!
