Since the holidays, the airlines have been hit hard by flight cancellations, with many flights being canceled due to weather.
Although wintry weather might not affect the Orlando area or Disney World directly, it can affect those traveling from certain areas of the U.S. to and from the resort. And yesterday, many travelers were unpleasantly surprised when their flights were canceled.
According to WESH, airlines canceled 2,000 flights yesterday due to a winter storm that is currently set to bash the East Coast with rain, sleet, and snow.
One airline affected by cancellations is American Airlines — after pre-emptively canceling 90 flights on Saturday, it canceled 1,100 yesterday. Many of these cancellations are at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport, where 90 percent of flights have been canceled. Note that passengers with canceled flights on American will be able to rebook without a fee. Other airlines are also canceling flights: Southwest has canceled 164 flights, while Delta has canceled 153 flights.
Many other airlines will have delays because of the weather, so if you’re flying today, be sure to check with your airline on your flight’s status. If your flight is canceled, contact your airline immediately to make other arrangements. And keep in mind that there could be issues at Orlando International Airport today due to bad weather in that region — the airport has warned that severe weather could affect both flights and baggage delivery.
UPDATE: Today, an additional 1,200+ flights have been cancelled due to the powerful winter storm.
We’ll keep you updated when we get more information, but for now, if you’re flying today, keep checking with your airline on those flights!
