Can you believe 2022 is already here?!
The last month of 2021 was filled with holiday cheer and CROWDS, just like we expected. But, we didn’t see EVERYTHING coming last month. Here are the three most unexpected things that happened in Disney World in December!
1. The Fire at Cinderella Castle
Hands down the most SHOCKING news of the whole month was the fire at Cinderella Castle. About halfway through the month, we were surprised to see emergency vehicles proceeding down Main Street, U.S.A. in response to a fire near the Disney World icon!
Guests were evacuated from the immediate area of the Castle and emergency vehicles congregated near the source of the fire on the Liberty Square side of the hub. Luckily, the fire was small and was able to be extinguished with a fire extinguisher.
Whew! The Cinderella Castle fire certainly made for an eventful evening in the park. The following day, park operations were back to normal but this was still a pretty SURPRISING event!

2. Typhoon Lagoon’s Reopening Announcement
This next one might not be as shocking as a fire, but we were still pretty surprised. Just a few days ago, Disney announced that Typhoon Lagoon water park will reopen on January 2nd!
This park has been closed for almost two years so this is a pretty exciting announcement. Still, it was pretty surprising to get a big water park reopening announcement for early January. The park is opening as Blizzard Beach closes for the season.
Even better, this reopening is bringing with it ALL. NEW. TREATS. We can’t WAIT to try out the new Dole Whip concoctions — and to get our slide on.

3. A $50 Pop Socket?
And this last one might not be the newsiest of news, but it CERTAINLY is shocking. We found a $50 POP SOCKET. $50!?!? FIFTY!?!?
Sure, the Disney World 50th Anniversary PopSocket is glitzy and all, but we’re not sure we ever expected to spot a $50 option. What’s even MORE surprising is that these trinkets were FLYING off the shelves. That’s quite the holiday gift!
