Ready for some exciting Disney news?
We sure hope so! Destination D23, one of Disney’s largest fan events, is currently happening and we’re learning a lot about the future of Disney. We’ve learned about celebrations coming to Disneyland Paris, a new restaurant in EPCOT, and more. Now, we’ve got another sneak peek at a VERY cool Disney innovation.
Earlier this year, Disney teased the reveal of a WALKING robot Baby Groot and then gave us a full look in April. The high-tech bot is currently in development with Disney Imagineers and now we’ve got another sneak peek at the little guy.
Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Chairman Josh D’Amaro shared a preview of robo-Groot this morning during his Destination D23 presentation. Here’s a new image!
The clip showed D’Amaro interacting with Groot and our tree friend giving a sweet wave.

The Robot Groot project (or Project Kiwi) is still a work in progress and there haven’t been any updates as to when it will be revealed to guests in person. When it was first teased, Walt Disney Imagineering noted that there were no immediate plans to put it in the theme parks.
The goal of Project Kiwi is to help bring smaller-scale Disney characters to life in a more realistic way. Keep an eye on DFB for more news from Destination D23!

Disclosure: In nearly all circumstances, Disney Food Blog writers and photographers pay full price for their own travel, hotel, food, beverage, and event tickets. We do this because it’s important to us as journalists to ensure not only that we give you unbiased opinions, but also that you can trust us to do so since we’re paying our own way. On rare occasions, when we are invited by a company to attend a preview as media, and when we choose to accept that invitation, we will always make you, our readers, aware of that situation. Today, we were invited by Disney to attend Destination D23. Note that when we attend events as media we are 1) Not required to review that event/food on any of our channels, and 2) Not required to review that event/food favorably. You can always count on DFB to give you a 100% unbiased and honest review of any event that we attend, food that we eat, or beverage that we drink. You can see more in our Disclosure Policy.
