PHOTOS: Select Animatronics Go MISSING from EPCOT’s Spaceship Earth

Note: The animatronics have returned to the attraction.

Lots of things have been changing at EPCOT lately as part of the EPCOT Transformation.

Soon, there will be a new shop, a revitalized Club Cool, and more. Today, we noticed that something else had changed at EPCOT, this time inside of a classic attraction.

When we rode through Spaceship Earth this afternoon we noticed that some animatronics have been removed.

First, in the cave scene there is typically a caveman standing just left of where the mammoth drawing is in the center.

This afternoon, however, the caveman was nowhere to be seen.

Over in the Rome scene, we also noticed someone was missing. Typically, there is a Roman solider in this scene, as you can see from the photo below.

But, during our trip through the ride today, the solider was not present.

We’re not sure why these specific animatronics have been removed from the attraction, though we expect they could be undergoing some needed maintenance.

The Soldier Wasn’t There Today

Previously, Disney had announced that Spaceship Earth would undergo a more extensive transformation that would bring new narration, a new story, and even new scenes to the ride.

As of right now, however, the development of this project has been postponed. The word “postponed” implies that the Spaceship Earth transformation could take place at some point in the future, but we really haven’t heard any updates about this transformation in quite some time.

We expect the removal of these animatronics is likely temporary and does not have to do with the previously announced transformation of the ride overall, but we’ll keep an eye out for more updates about Spaceship Earth and we’ll let you know what we find. Stay tuned for all the latest Disney info.
