Are you a massive fan of Disney’s Twilight Zone Tower of Terror attraction?
Well, you may have your own set of Tower of Terror ears and you may be super excited about the news of a potential new Tower of Terror movie coming in the future. But, did you know about one of the buildings that reportedly inspired the Tower’s design in some of the Disney parks?
According to the Los Angeles Times, the Hollywood Tower building in California is one of the buildings that has often been cited as an inspiration for some of the architecture of the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror attraction in Disney World and other Disney theme parks. L.A. Biz also notes that the building reportedly served as inspiration for Disney’s Tower of Terror.
The building is designed in a faux French-Normandy style and is located at 6200 Franklin Ave. It’s even listed on the National Register of Historic Places!
At least according to some photos shown on the MWEST Holdings page, it looks like some of the inside spaces might still have that old Hollywood-type feel.
When looked at from this angle with some of the neon lights you might get a sense of some of the ways in which the architecture of this spot may have inspired the Tower of Terror we see in Disney World (and other Disney parks) today.
According to the Los Angeles Business Journal, the Hollywood Tower features just over 50 apartment units. The 8 story building was built back in 1929 and then partially remodeled in 2010.
Why are we sharing a look at this building right now? Well, the Hollywood Tower recently sold for $20.1 million! We expect the selling price would have been significantly less if the building actually had an elevator that didn’t exactly function as an elevator should and had a bit of a spooky past. But, who knows, maybe that would have added additional value to the right buyer?!
Anyway, it’s interesting to get a feel for some of the spots that have reportedly inspired some of the architecture we see in the parks. We’ll be sure to look for more interesting stories like this in the future and we’ll share them with you!
