It feels like we’ve been waiting FOREVER for the NEW Space 220 restaurant to open in EPCOT!
Space 220 was announced all the way back in 2017. It was originally set to open in the winter of 2019 but ran into some delays. Then, the pandemic hit and more delays resulted. But now we’ve got a BIG update on when this spot could open!
Recently, we’ve seen some signs pointing to progress over at Space 220. Various job positions for the restaurant are now listed online and people who are interested can apply to work there. In November of 2020, Disney shared a peek INSIDE the restaurant at the IAAPA Expo 2020 Presentation. And we saw lights on outside of the restaurant in February of this year.
But now Patina Restaurant Group, the organization that will be running Space 220, has indicated that the restaurant is preparing for a fall opening in EPCOT!
Of course, things are always subject to change or be delayed again. But, we certainly hope that we’ll all be able to take a trip to space for some delicious treats soon.
In case you aren’t familiar with Space 220, the restaurant will be located near Mission: SPACE in EPCOT’s Future World. To get to the restaurant space, guests will board an elevator that will “transport” them 220 miles above Earth to the Centauri Space Station. Once inside, you’ll get to enjoy unique views of space as you eat!
The menu is set to include modern American cuisine as well as more than 1,000 bottles of the world’s finest wines and a wide selection of craft beer.
So far, fall 2021 is the only indication we’ve been provided with in terms of an opening time period. An exact opening date has not yet been shared. Could Space 220 open on October 1st, 2021, which marks the start of the 50th Anniversary celebrations in Disney World? It’s possible!
Spaceship Earth is receiving a makeover with permanent new lighting, and both Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure and La Crêperie de Paris are set to have their grand openings on October 1st, 2021. So, Space 220’s opening could be added to this special day.
Note that the Disney website still just indicates that Space 220 is “coming soon.”
We’re on the lookout for more details and will definitely let you know what we find.
