A Disney Castle Will Feature Marvel Characters for the FIRST Time

This year is Shanghai Disney Resort’s 5th anniversary!

And the park is celebrating in a BIG way: with a celebration called “Year of Magical Surprises!” The event is kicking off on April 8th (that’s in just a few days!), and Disney teased a brand-new fireworks show for the occasion. And now, we’ve got even more details about the show.

This new nighttime spectacular is called ILLUMINATE! A Nighttime Celebration, and it’ll be replacing Shanghai Disneyland’s OG fireworks show. It’s debuting SOON: on April 8th, 2021! According to Disney, it’s “centered around a theme of light,” illuminating (get it?!) the whole park as it becomes enchanted.

A LOT is going into this new show: 22,000 new LED lights, 91 lighting fixtures, and a bunch of lasers will comprise just some of the special effects we’ll see. Joe Schott, President and General Manager of Shanghai Disney Resort, said that the creation “leveraged the talent of over 70 Disney experts and consultants from eight countries, employed some of the world’s advanced technologies, and incorporated some of our most beloved stories.” We can’t wait to see how it turns out!

So what characters will you see?! The show is made up of 7 chapters, taking guests through classic Disney stories like Aladdin and The Lion King into newer ones like Raya and the Last Dragon and Soul. And it will be the first time ever that Marvel superheroes will appear on a Disney castle: we’ll see Iron Man, Captain Marvel, Black Panther, and more!

The soundtrack will consist of reimagined Disney classics as well as a brand-new original song, “Light Is in You.” Safe to say, we’re pretty excited to see this spectacular debut! Stay tuned to DFB for more Disney news.
