Disneyland Paris was most recently set to reopen in France in April, but it has since delayed that reopening due to the situation with COVID-19 in the country and travel restrictions.
Today, we got an update on COVID-19 restrictions in France as the situation with the pandemic continues to develop there.
According to AP News, recently the French government introduced a “patchwork of new restrictions” regarding COVID-19, while also reducing the national curfew by an hour. The government backed off, however, from ordering a tough lockdown for Paris and other regions despite an increase in COVID-19 patients in some hospitals.
As part of these new regulations, non-essential outlets will have to close down, while schools will remain open. People in France have been under a nationwide curfew for several months that begins at 6PM and ends at 6AM each day. That curfew will now start an hour later.
Restaurants, bars, cinemas, gyms, museums, theaters, and concert halls, which have all been shut down for almost 5 months, will continue to be closed. And there are specific regulations in terms of walking outside and how far individuals can walk from their home in Paris.
The new rules take effect as of midnight on Friday. They will remain in place for at least for weeks.
France’s Prime Minister Jean Castex has noted that France faces a “third wave” of the pandemic. Three quarters of the new COVID-19 cases in France are reportedly of the UK variant. Castex noted that “[t]he situation is deteriorating.”
In the Paris region alone, there is a COVID-19 infection rate of 446 out of 100,000 inhabitants — which is up more than 23% in a week. Intensive care units there are also reportedly “close to saturation.” Nationwide, France’s infection rate is about 250 per 100,000. Additionally, approximately 250 people are dying each day from the virus.
But, Castex said that France is sticking to dealing with the virus in way that is “pragmatic, proportional, and regional.”
At the moment, Disneyland Paris has simply delayed its reopening date and has not yet indicated a target date by which it hopes to reopen. We’ll continue to keep an eye out for more updates about the situation in France, particularly as it may impact any future reopening plans for Disneyland Paris.
