When one visits EPCOT, one snacks around the world in World Showcase! And one of those quintessential snack spots in World Showcase has got to be Kringla Bakeri Og Cafe in the Norway Pavilion.
Home to the beloved School Bread, Kringla Bakeri Og Cafe is a great place to find some unique desserts at an affordable price! We stopped in today as we often do, and we were surprised to see a NEW menu addition!
We JUST recovered from the sugar high brought on by the grand opening of Gideon’s Bakehouse in Disney Springs this past weekend, but it looks like Disney World has even MORE new sweets for us to try. We spotted one new item: the Kransekake.
UPDATE! When we first stopped by, Cast Members told us that the Kransekake wasn’t available and offered us the Almond Ring Cookie instead. When we stopped by later, though, a sign was posted that said the Almond Ring Cookie WAS the Kransekake!
Of course, we ordered this new treat to give it a try!
They asked us if we wanted it heated or not, and we said yes (which is a perfect option for those chillier winter days!).
The Kransekake is a sweet, dense cookie covered in sliced chopped almonds — it reminded us of a marzipan cookie!
We were a bit surprised to find how sweet this cookie is, given that there’s no icing or any other ingredients that would make it super sweet! We definitely recommend you try this cookie warmed up like we did; it gives the cookie that extra bit of warmth and nuttiness.
From the looks of it, this treat definitely doesn’t come with that “WOW” factor like what we’ve seen lately at Gideon’s Bakehouse or Everglazed Donuts & Cold Brew, but sometimes less is more! Almond lovers should adore this new menu addition in World Showcase.
As a note, when we stopped by Kringla again and found out the Almond Ring and the Kransekake were one and the same, we noticed the cookie had a dusting of powdered sugar on it. The Cast Members told us it was non-melting powdered sugar that they like to call “Snow White Sugar!”
While it’s not a very large cookie (it’s basically a sliver of what you would get when you order the massive 1/2 pound cookies at Gideon’s Bakehouse), it’s offered at a great price point, like many of the other snacks at Kringla! You can pick one up for $3.49.
