Another month down in Walt Disney World and we’re into the new year!
We’re taking a look back at December. Sure, we had some holiday treats and a bunch of fun times in Disney World — but there were also some things we DIDN’T see coming! Here are the three most unexpected things that happened in Disney World last month!
1. Rise of the Resistance Changed the Boarding Group process!
So, the Rise of the Resistance Virtual Queue process changes all the time; you’d think at this point we’d see it coming! But really, we thought they’d be settled for a while on the 7AM and 2PM release times. Not the case!
Prior to last month, spots in Rise of the Resistance’s Virtual Queue (Boarding Groups) became available at 7AM for those with Disney Park Passes to Disney’s Hollywood Studios and 2PM for those in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. In December, Disney announced that the afternoon time would shift from 2PM to 1PM.
In hindsight, this does make sense! Park hopping returned on January 1st and it does simplify things to have that Boarding Group availability drop BEFORE park hopping hours begin (at 2PM) and not at the same time. But, we weren’t expecting such a sudden announcement when it came.

2. Beaches and Cream Closed their To-Go Window!
We got quite the shock when we stopped by Disney’s Beach Club Resort on December 20th. If you’ve been hanging out with us here at DFB for a while then you know we’re big fans of the ice cream over at Beaches & Cream Soda Shop.
Well, imagine our surprise when we found that the Beaches & Cream To-Go Window was CLOSED. Cast Members let us know that the closure is indefinite at this time. Nooooo! This certainly shocked us and we sure will miss those wild shakes!

3. Holiday Merch Went on Sale for 70% off!
Earlier in December, lots of holiday merchandise went on sale for 30% off. This is pretty normal! After all, as we get closer and past Christmas, this merchandise gets a little bit lower in demand. And yes, we expected to see the sale get a little better after the holidays…
…but we weren’t expecting THIS BIG of a jump in the SAVINGS! On December 29th, we noticed that signs were out for 70% OFF holiday merchandise. Woah! We’re still spotting this sale but it won’t be going on for long so hurry to stock up EARLY for this year’s Christmas.
