When Disney California Adventure partially reopens for select shopping and dining tomorrow, some things are going to be a LOT different.
For starters, guests can only visit Buena Vista Street for select shopping and dining experiences — no attractions will be open. And some of those stores and restaurants are going to look pretty different than before Disneyland Resort closed.
One restaurant that’s switching things up is Carthay Circle Lounge. For starters, guests will be dining al fresco, a.k.a. outside.
Chef Andrew Sutton, the culinary director of Signature Restaurants, told the Orange County Register that the concept is to have guests feel like they’re sitting in a European sidewalk cafe.
Sutton said, “We literally borrowed tables from some of the other restaurants. Then we started to get more serious about it, bringing in planters, and gardening, and making it look much more refined. The finished product is beautiful.”
Sutton also stated that the new menu is “a little lighter, a little fresher” and more in tune with the al fresco dining vibe. There are more shareable dishes and the fare is Mediterranean meets California. Although some classics have returned, including the Vietnamese Twice-cooked Beef Tacos and Duck Confit Empanadas.
Guests can also expect a new take on cocktails, although they will still be able to order classics like Walt’s Favorite Scotch Mist.
Guests will not need to make reservations, but the restaurant will use a Mobile Dine Walk-Up Waitlist feature after it reaches capacity (which is limited). This will be similar to the waitlist system currently in use at Disney World for some table service restaurants.
Buena Vista Street at California Adventure will be open from 10AM to 8PM every day starting on November 19th. Guests can expect the same health and safety precautions currently being used for Downtown Disney. Also, note that restaurants are limiting party sizes to six people per table.
