Disney theme parks around the world closed temporarily earlier this year in response to the global pandemic.
All of Disney’s theme parks, except those at Disneyland Resort in California, have since reopened. But, as the situation with the coronavirus develops, changes continue to occur. Big changes are coming very soon to France that will likely impact Disneyland Paris.
According to Bloomberg, French President Emmanuel Macron has imposed a new nationwide lockdown, “clamping down on movement” due to the “rapid spread of the coronavirus” in France. The lockdown is set to begin this Friday.
In an address that was televised nationally, Macron said, “Virus is circulating in France at a speed that even the most pessimistic forecast didn’t foresee…The measures we’ve taken have turned out to be insufficient to counter a wave that’s affecting all Europe.”
Recently, France expanded a curfew to about 2/3 of the population in an attempt to regain control of the pandemic. According to Bloomberg, healthcare officials have noted, however, that “infections and hospitalizations are rising at such a pace that avoiding tighter measures is no longer possible.”
Last week, French authorities reported 4 consecutive days of record infections, and COVID-19 cases in France now average more than 38,000 a day. The weekly pace appears to have been climbing for the past 25 days. French fatalities from COVID-19 have also jumped this week. France’s stay-at-home order is only part of a series of tighter restrictions being instituted across Europe.
Disney has yet to make a statement on this matter or any official announcements related to Disneyland Paris, but we are on the lookout for that information and will continue to update you as we learn more.
