Over the past few weeks, there has been a lot of back and forth happening between Disneyland Resort and the state of California.
Disney executives continue to make their case for Disneyland to reopen soon, but California Governor Gavin Newson has stated he is in “no hurry” to release theme park guidelines. That statement came after Disney Chairman Bob Iger stepped down from the California Economy Recovery Task Force.
Despite the rocky road Disneyland seems to face in reopening, the parks have been working toward reopening by making certain health and safety updates due to the global health crisis. Disneyland has been working closely with Orange County health officials, who recently stated that Disney has a “pretty solid reopening plan.”
The Orange County Register reports that Disney continues to work with the Orange County Health Care Agency and has recently adopted even more health and safety recommendations made by that organization. After the agency toured the theme parks, they recommended the following:
- Adding signs in Spanish with health and safety information
- Placing new markings on the ground outside restrooms to keep down cross-traffic
- Putting in more hand sanitizing stations around attractions
Although Disney continues to work with the county health agency, there is still no solid date for Disneyland’s reopening. Guest reservations through October 24th have been canceled, and Disneyland is only currently accepting reservations starting on November 1st. However, there is no guarantee that the parks will open by then.
Downtown Disney reopened this summer, and for now, it’s the only part of Disneyland Resort that’s currently operating. We’ll continue to keep an eye on the news and let you know if anything about this situation changes.
