Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis has given the go-ahead for some municipalities in the state to start reopening beaches and parks after having been closed to the public by state order earlier this month as part of safety measures in light of the current global situation.

The reopening prohibits gatherings of 50 or more people, and social distancing must be practiced.

Beaches in north Florida are among the first to reopen as Mayor Lenny Curry of Duval County granted opening starting this afternoon for activities including walking, biking, hiking, fishing, exercising, swimming and surfing, and caring for pets. The beaches will be open with restricted hours from 6:00 to 11:00 AM and 5:00 to 8:00 PM. Additionally, certain items are prohibited such as towels, blankets, chairs, coolers and grills, and sunbathing (or any other type of group activity) is not permitted during what’s being referred to as a “soft reopening.”

The Governor is quoted as saying: “Do it in a good way. Do it in a safe way.”
