We’ve all been there: It’s a screaming hot day at Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom, and our schedule for the day doesn’t get us out of the sun’s persistent rays for long stretches of time. We’re having a blast (of course!), but we’re about to melt. Enter: Shave Ice!

This sweet and icy treat has been a seasonal part of the Animal Kingdom food scene for a couple of years, and it can now be found in the area of Harambe Market (not to be mistaken for Harambe Fruit Market closer to Kilimanjaro Safari). It shows up every once in a while — it’s not guaranteed to be there on your visit — and when it does, it’s usually a hot day, making Shave Ice very welcome!

You have a few options for your Shave Ice. Flavor choices include watermelon, pina colada, and mango passion fruit. We went with the last on this visit and found it to be a delicious, tropical flavor!

But if you’re looking for a little liquid fortification at the same time, you can spike your Shave ice with vodka or rum! We’re glad this option exists for those who want to imbibe, but the non-alcoholic version is awesome and large enough to share with the whole family!

Sometimes it’s the simple things that make the biggest impact, and when you need to cool off in Animal Kingdom, nothing works as quickly as Harambe Market’s big ol’ cup of shave ice! Dig in, Disney food friends!
