The Disney food and beverage team strives to accommodate guests with special diets. While many restaurants around Walt Disney World are able to accommodate special diet requests without advance notice, including concerns regarding sugar and carbohydrates, there are some helpful tips that can make your visit easier and help you feel better prepared for dining during your trip.
According to the Walt Disney World website, Disney recognizes both No-Sugar-Added and Low-Carbohydrate as “common diet requests,” and states that “Many Walt Disney World restaurants can prepare meals for common diet requests.”
Guests are advised to share their special diets request with the assisting Cast Member at the restaurant upon arrival. At a Table Service (sit down) restaurant, this will be your server. At a Quick Service (or Counter Service) restaurant, Cast Members assist at ordering registers. If you have additional concerns, you may request to speak with a Special Diets-Trained Cast Member.
Helpful Tips and Resources
- Bring a carb count guide book with you.
- Pack 2-3 times the amount of supplies as needed, then pack them in two separate bags and put your name and cell phone number on everything.
- Staying in a Disney Word Resort hotel? Moderate and Deluxe resorts have small fridges in the hotel rooms. At a value resort, request a refrigerator and tell them that you need it for medical supplies. Medically necessary fridge rentals are complimentary.
- AllEars.Net has a great resource on visiting Disney World specifically with Type 1 diabetes.
Should I Contact Disney World directly?
The following is shared on the Walt Disney World website:
“If you or anyone in your party has either 4 or more allergy-friendly requests, requires pureed meals, or adheres to a medically-restrictive diet (such as very low protein), contact [email protected] in advance to ask for a Special Diets Request Form. We request that you don’t contact us any sooner than 14 days prior to your arrival. With the information you provide, the Special Diets team will assist you in navigating the dining process, which may include providing the restaurants you intend to visit with advance notice.”
When needed, the Disney Special Diets email is [email protected].
