In August of 2024, Disney hosted the massive D23 Ultimate Fan Event in Anaheim, California. The major convention broke news from across Disney’s spectrum of offerings, including films, television streaming, video games, and parks. One of the biggest announcements of the weekend came with the reveal of a BRAND NEW expansion to Disney California Adventure’s Avengers Campus.

Initially opened in 2021, the land marked the first full Marvel-themed area in a U.S. Disney park. Disney announced TWO new Marvel attractions coming to the land, including Avengers Infinity Defense. (The other attraction is Stark Flight Lab.)

The long-awaited Avengers E-Ticket attraction has been teased at events going back to 2019. The latest and final version of the attraction is called Avengers Infinity Defense.

Disney describes the new attraction’s plot as such: “Technology that allows the Avengers to jump between worlds has gone missing, and King Thanos is using it to wreak havoc everywhere. Recruits will travel to iconic locations like Asgard, Wakanda, and New York City alongside the likes of big and small heroes…

… You also just might find yourself face-to-face with King Thanos, too.”

For context, in this ride, we’ll get a “multi-world experience” which is where King Thanos comes into play. He is a variant of the villain we all know from the Avengers film, but in this reality…he won. 😳

Also at the D23 event, Disney shared a new look at the attraction’s ride vehicle with a maquette on display.

According to Disney, the vehicle itself is actually “key” to the story of the ride.

In the ride, you’ll join the Avengers on a “multi-world mission spanning destinations across the universe.” You’re able to travel to these unique destinations because — thanks to collaborations between inventors at Avengers Campus — the Avengers have been able to create a new vehicle that’s “capable of jumping between these worlds and even realities — on planet Earth and beyond.”

Disney has also noted that the ride vehicle will feature “a design that combines elements of Tony Stark’s time-suits with Xandarian jump points and Wakandan technology.”

We’re still awaiting exact details as to just what this attraction will involve. Disney has shared, however, that they looked forward to sharing more about the “physical worlds for this epic attraction and are excited to bring them to life with a blend of large-scale built environments and immersive media.”

Timeline for the Avengers Campus Expansion

As mentioned above, TWO new Marvel attractions are coming to the land, with Stark Flight Lab joining Avengers Infinity Defense.

Though Disney has not revealed a completion timeline for the Avengers Campus expansion, it has been confirmed that work on the project has officially begun: As of Sunday, January 12th, Disneyland has closed the Timon parking lot to make way for construction at Avengers Campus.

Please be aware that construction on the Avengers Campus expansion shut down a California Adventure attraction, the Red Car Trolley, on February 8th, 2025. Disney needs the space taken up by the trolley’s barn for the expansion, so the entire ride has been permanently closed.
