Thanks to the addition of Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure and a massive increase in the usage of EPCOT’s International Gateway entrance thanks to the Skyliner, the World Showcase’s France Pavilion — and its Les Halles Boulangerie-Patisserie — has gotten much busier in recent years, and it’s created an issue.
Les Halles is a traditional French bakery which offers a full menu, ranging from soups and salads to fresh baguette sandwiches and pastries, as well as wine, champagne, beer, and gourmet coffees. However, one thing the eatery doesn’t offer? Mobile Order.
Without mobile ordering as an option, Les Halles Boulangerie-Patisserie is often swarmed by guests, with lines streaming out of the building, and tables in the seating area consistently filled to capacity. So, what’s an EPCOT guest to do? Well, the key is visiting at the right time of day.
Now, to be clear, there is no time of day when Les Halles is empty, so we’re talking about comparative “less busy” times here. With that out of the way, let’s talk crowds. The eatery gets busy early in the morning, as many guests streaming through the International Gateway entrance to EPCOT head there for a morning snack, and remains so through the lunch rush.
Things pick up again at the park’s final few hours of operation, as guests stop by for a pastry and coffee before settling into their spot on the World Showcase Lagoon to watch Luminous or leave the park for the evening.
That leaves an afternoon window of roughly 3 PM to 6 PM, where things are slightly less busy. (Again, the word “slightly” is doing a lot of heavy lifting there.)
So, whether you find yourself a spot during that window or simply decide to wait out the long lunchtime lines, what should you get? Honestly, there are few, if any, “wrong” choices as the Les Halles menu is one of the most consistent on Disney World property. However, we do have some favorites! If you want to study up on the full menu, our Guide to Disney World Dining pulls it all together so you can stop stressing and focus on the fun without feeling like you’re missing a thing!
If you’re looking for a hearty lunch, the Jambon Beurre remains one of our go-to staples. This $10.95 ham and cheese sandwich is served on a demi baguette slathered with Dijon Mustard Butter.
As we wrote last year, “What’s not to love about this? You’ve got that Dijon mustard that adds the perfect tang against the salty ham and cheese. You can even have it toasted if you want, which gets the cheese all nice and melty.”
If you’re looking for something a bit sweeter, you can pick up the Citron for $7.95. This flaky puff pastry is filled with a lemon cream base and topped with a generous pile of fresh blueberries. Anyone with a soft spot for lemon desserts will enjoy this one
If you’re not feeling something quite that tart, however, there’s the Café Liégeois. This $7.50 treat is a coffee-flavored dessert made with a light, fluffy mousse layered over chocolate cake crumbles, topped with a generous swirl of whipped cream and a sprinkle of crispy pearls. We found this treat to be creamy, light, and just indulgent enough to make it feel like a sophisticated sweet treat.
If you’re planning to grab a bite at Les Halles during your next Disney World trip, you may want to target a mid-late afternoon lunch. Stay tuned to DFB for more Disney dining tips.
