Picking the “right” Disney World hotel is a tricky task, and that’s why relying on the experts goes a long way.
With so many Disney World hotels to choose from, it’s safe to assume that everyone is going to have their favorites based on budget, theming, location, and amenities. But it’s also fair to assume that folks will have a list of hotels they don’t want to stay at again. Maybe the cost was too steep, the atmosphere was too loud, or the vibes weren’t on par with what they were looking for. With that in mind, we’re highlighting three Disney World hotels some experts refuse to book.
Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort
Despite being a popular spot for families and vacationers on a budget, there are some notable issues with Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort.
This value hotel offers you a budget option themed after all things sport. If you’re not a huge sports fan, this theming ain’t gonna do much for ya. There are some nods to Disney sports media that even sports-averse fans might recognize, but, compared to other theming options at other Disney World hotels, this one could be a miss depending on your personal tastes.
All-Star Sports is also often packed with large youth groups, including sports teams and cheerleading squads competing at Disney World for a given period of time. As such, this resort is one of the noisiest — if not the noisiest — in all of Disney World.
However, maybe its biggest detractor is location. The All-Star Resorts, in general, only offer free bus service, and they aren’t located along the Disney Skyliner route.
That’s why we generally prefer staying at Pop Century or Art of Animation when looking at Value Resorts. Buses can be slow and crowded, but the Skyliner gives you a quick and scenic ride to both EPCOT and Hollywood Studios DIRECTLY FROM YOUR HOTEL, making the price difference worth it.
Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is upscale and gorgeous — but it’s hard to overlook the price.
Disney’s flagship resort offers Victorian elegance with elite dining options close to Magic Kingdom, but you’re gonna have to pony up to stay here. Rooms can cost well over $700 per night, and if you’re just using your hotel to sleep after long park days, this kind of cost is tough to justify.
Disney’s Polynesian and Contemporary Resorts are both Deluxe Resorts that have monorail access and will cost a little less — if you’re looking for an elevated, yet slightly more affordable lodging experience.
Disney’s Riviera Resort is also along the Skyliner route and puts extra cash back in your wallet.
Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campgrounds
For a lot of people, staying at a hotel is alluring because of its upscale and lavish vacation vibes. You’ll get something quite different with Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campgrounds.
This resort lets you camp out at Disney World at a more affordable rate, and you can opt for cabins or campsites, bringing along RVs and tents to “glamp” at Disney World! It’s certainly a unique lodging experience with tons of recreational activities like horseback riding, archery, and canoeing, and it’s even pet-friendly. You can even indulge in a hootin’ good time and tasty meal at Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue. But if you prefer a more traditional hotel stay and need amenities available late (shops and snack options aren’t open super late), this may not be the spot for you.
Other hotels like Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge and Disney’s Wilderness Lodge can scratch that wilderness/rustic theming itch while providing upscale rooms and services. Just be prepared to shell out some cash.
