We hope you’re not forgetting about Disney World’s NEW Villains Land, because we sure haven’t!

When Villains Land at Magic Kingdom was OFFICIALLY announced in 2024 after tons of speculation, Disney fans collectively lost their minds in excitement — and rightfully so. Disney showed us concept art, teased some features the new land might include, got us hyped…and then went extremely quiet about the project. Aside from some proposed designs from Disney Imagineers that might be incorporated into the land, we still don’t know that much more about Villains Land than when it was announced two years ago. So that begs the question…when are we actually going to learn more?
Right now, Villains Land is being built behind Big Thunder Mountain Railroad — slowly, yet surely. This project has remained fairly mysterious, but it is too big to ignore. All signs point to Disney really highlighting this project fairly soon. Here’s why…

At Disney’s 2024 D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event expo, Disney broke the internet when it revealed a brand-new Villains-themed land is coming to Magic Kingdom. The dark and twisted atmosphere would make the land feel tonally different from anything else in Magic Kingdom. However, Disney did say completion was a ways away, and we still don’t have a timeline. So why am I confident that Villains Land will get an update soon?

People are going to be asking, and they’re going to be asking this summer when Disney hosts 2026 D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event at the Anaheim Convention Center and Honda Center on August 14th, 15th, and 16th.

That’s right: Disney’s biggest news event is BACK in 2026, and park expansions are usually a main topic of discussion. Disney doesn’t just casually sit on projects this large forever, and it will absolutely want to keep the hype going two years after making this huge announcement.
D23 2024
Logically, D23 is the place for the next wave of Villains Land news. We could get more detailed concept art that shows the full land layout, information on which villains will be featured, updates on the kinds of rides we’re getting, and maybe…just maybe…an opening timeframe. The land is still too far out to get a set date, but we could get something a little bit more specific.
D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event
Despite the radio silence, we’re not particularly worried about this land yet. Magic Kingdom is a complex park to expand, and the scale of Villains Land is larger than what Disney is used to in recent years, so these things will take time. Plus, with the infrastructure being installed, Disney may not have a ton to report right now. In 2024, Disney made it a point to announce only projects with concrete plans, rather than blue-sky ideas. After two years, though, it’s safe to assume there are some updates.

D23 is THE Disney event where the biggest projects are announced. Not shareholder meetings, not a random weekday, and not even the Destination D23 expo. This is it, and if we’re going to get some sizeable updates on the new land, Anaheim’s D23 expo is likely where it’ll happen. With that said, if the unthinkable happens and Disney reveals some details much sooner, you can count on us to fill you in!
