The United Airlines app just got some NEW features that could make your next trip easier! The new features include ‘Virtual Gate’, a Club recommendation tool, and a real-time bag tracker. United Airlines wants travelers to feel confident about their trip, and United’s Chief Customer Officer stated, “the more information our customers have, the more confident they feel about their trip – and that’s particularly important during the holidays.”
According to United Airlines, 84% of United customers use the app while flying, and these new features aim to provide more information that travelers might want during their journey. Let’s take a look at these new features!
The first new feature is ‘Virtual Gate’, which will provide users with real-time updates on which groups are boarding and a progress bar showing how many people have boarded. Yep, you can see how many people have boarded down to the individual. United Airlines hopes this will help to eliminate the need to wait around the gate area and give travelers a real-time look at boarding progress.
The app now also has a Club recommendation tool. The tool will recommend the “closest and best” nearby United Club based on the traveler’s current location. The app will also eventually display available capacity. The capacity feature will initially be offered only at ORD but is expected to roll out to additional airports in 2026.
The app now has an upgraded bag tracking feature. The app will display “package-delivery-style” updates showing your bag’s location in real time. Additionally, the app will provide personalized updates, such as guidance on traveling with strollers or wheelchairs, as well as reminders about required travel documents. Additional arrival information features have also been introduced, including live local weather conditions, estimated local arrival time, and instructions for connecting to rideshare services directly from the airport.
The United app isn’t the only thing that is getting more features, though! United Airlines has also unveiled the United Elevated interior for its new Boeing 787-9 airplanes. The updated features you’ll find inside these planes aim to raise “the standard of international premium travel among U.S. carriers.” Its newest additions include new business-class suites, the most premium seats in United’s fleet, an Ossetra caviar amuse-bouche service, Starlink connectivity, and even larger 4K OLED seatback screens.
