If you’ve subscribed to YouTube TV, you’ve probably noticed that you can no longer watch Disney content on the live TV service. That’s because there’s an ongoing dispute between Disney and Google over that content appearing on YouTube TV.
Disney removed its content from YouTube TV several weeks ago, after the two companies failed to reach a new carriage agreement on October 30th. That includes ESPN, ABC, Disney Channel, FX, National Geographic, and Freeform. As it stands, Disney content is still not available on YouTube TV. So the latest update is that there is no update, but something interesting is happening as a result of Disney withholding its content.
According to Business Insider, Apptopia recently ran an analysis to see the number of YouTube TV users who also use other apps that carry ESPN. The analysis also looked at Sling TV and DirecTV, as well as streamers owned or controlled by Disney, including Fubo, ESPN, and Hulu.
The data shows that the percentage change in usage of Sling TV, Fubo, and DirectTV apps by YouTube TV subscribers went up 35% each night after Disney pulled its content from YouTube TV. Meanwhile, users were also turning to the NFL and ESPN apps in smaller percentages. Hulu, though, didn’t show any change, but Hulu + Live TV has far fewer subscribers than standard Hulu.
The data only included mobile apps, though, but it’s still a good indication that sports viewers, in particular, have found other ways to watch live sports content on other streaming services. In the meantime, Disney content is also available via Disney+ and its bundles.
In the meantime, both Disney and YouTube TV are probably going to lose a lot of money because of the blackout. YouTube TV is currently offering its subscribers a $20 credit during the blackout, while Disney is losing money every day its channels aren’t on YouTube TV.
For now, though, the dispute continues, so we’ll be keeping an eye out for more updates.

I will be leaving YouTube TV very soon..If abc is not reinstated.
I’m probably going to change to another streaming service I want ABC etc
It’s all about money and the bottom line.
I am not a creature of change so to move from one platform to another is not as easy as it sounds. I love the lineup of YouTube TV but at this point I am seriously considering other options
I’m disgusted with Disney…I will not add fubo to put more money in their pockets….I will not visit any of their Parks …I do not frequent any of their wasted channels….just ESPNs…but I’m obviously paying for them anyway. Based on viewership nobody else is watching them either.
If this last much longer we are going to cancel we can’t get our local news
We are paying for both YouTube TV AND Disney+. I am canceling my Disney+ and can live without it!!!!!
They’re like the politicians. We dont care what you’re fighting about. Just figure it out. I refuse to subscribe to any more apps. YouTube TV has the best interface in my opinion. I guess no more sports. 😞
I cancelled my YouTube TV as a result of Google having too many contract disputes with content providers. It was great while it lasted, but enough is enough and I’m happy to have moved on.
As a YouTube subscriber, I am disappointed in the obvious greed of Disney. We cut the cable cord because that cost was constantly increasing. NBC / Paramount recently resolved their similar issue w/ YouTube TV and no blackout. Seems Disney’s greed & wokeness rears its ugly head once again.
I think this is ridiculous and wish i would have never switched to YoutubeTV !! Give me my ABC back!! And I wish Disney would stop trying to monopolize the whole streaming network! END THE DISPUTE!!
I think it’s a waste of money to rely on any providers that always raising their fees and removing channels for leverage to increase fees at the cost of subscribers I will be going back over the air free tv
I am a u-tube subscriber and I didn’t get my $20.00 discount
Disney you’ve got money we want our abc and all the other channels back with utube thank you
I kind of expected this to happen when the ESPN unlimited app was unveiled. Plus the fact Disney owning Fubo and Hulu live and having a monopoly. Unfortunately one alternative diretv stream is as bad as the satellite service with its hidden fees.
Extremely disappointed! I have cancelled YouTube TV because of this. I now have Hulu + live, not the same at all, but I missed Eyewitness News as well as my other shows. I hope they come to their senses, I’m not happy at all.
HD antenna gets me ABC. I don’t care about ESPN, Disney or Hulu
Corporate greed I’m not leaving YTTV
Youtubetv has the best interface for channels and im not switching again just cause of Disney this is what happened last time and just NO! THE ONLY thing im upset with is not getting abc or fx channels I wish they would stop dealing with disney…
Well YouTubeTV keeps going up and up so I’m about done with them. However, I know this risk is all Disney and their greedy hind ends. They couldn’t care less about faithful viewers, only that they line the pockets of their woke exec’s and board member’s pockets. It’s time to just go back to reading a good book, going to bed early, and letting the tech go.
Just want ABC back. I guess I will need to start watching other shows. Who need all those channels anyway. There should be a package to watch a dozen different channels and give us a break from the high cost of programming we don’t watch .
I wish they would hurry up and settle this dispute. It sucks that I can’t get my channels. I’ve been really patient, but I may have to switch providers if they don’t figure things out.
I paid for Disney plus,Hulu Espn… and you went up on your price. And I can’t watch my program. It’s not fair you took more than my sports… you took other channel. I am just bout to go to a different server. I am a widow that’s my entertainment. And I paid alot every month
If youtube is owned by Google at what point does Google start messing with anything Disney related in the search engine by Google?
I have now missed 2 weeks of Monday night football. Literally the first time since its inception. Very sad.
If they don’t settle this quickly I’m dropping everything and going antenna! I’m done….
It’s so interesting that most people on here mention Disney’s greed. How about Google’s greed? They are the ones that pay for content and charge you for the subscription. They don’t want to pay what’s fair for content. Disney isn’t the first to have a problem with YouTube TV. i believe this is Google’s fifth dispute like this in the past year.
I’m staying with YouTube I like them and they have NBC ,CBS and Fox
I got YTTV for the nfl package si stuck until the season is over. Once it is im gone from YTTV and buy the package through YT and get everything else from another service.
It’s all about money. I am so irritated with YouTubetv and Disney. I am looking for A better streaming service. I’m paying for Disney and therefore I should get everything that they offer. They need to reimburse me for all of the inconvenience that has been caused. Youtube tv keeps going up and now we’re getting less.
How much more money does Disney need? I’m sick of the Disney monopoly. I just want ESPN, ABC and FX back. Keep your other 14 cartoon and crap stations Disney. I’m not leaving YouTube.
BTW…After this situation, Disney, I won’t be back. I’ll go to Universal Studios!!!
I think the channels lost including A&E need to be put back on. We all pay nearly $90 per month and I am certain with that amount the negotiation could happen. I have been doing research on other services and what channels they offer and how good the interfaces are. GIVE US BACK OUR CHANNELS!!
I’m a YTTV subscriber, and I’m not going anywhere. Disney is trying to have a monopoly over everything Sports.
We switched from Fubo because of all of the channels the kept disappearing but the cost remained the same. We really appreciated the cost and channels offered on YouTube TV. So now, the main reason I switched in the first place is happing all over again. We do watch ABC, but really miss all of the ESPN CHANNELS. Please end the dispute so I don’t have to figure another platform to go to next!
I’m not missing anything on ABC because I can get the 6 shows I watch on it on standard Hulu. The only thing I can’t get is Monday Night Football. I did get my $20 credit that’ll be applied to my next bill. I won’t be canceling YouTube TV. I know ABC etc will be back soon.
We are seniors with limited income. You Tube TV and several streaming services have given us a varied list of available TV programs. In this market, we find the local ABC station has the best weather and traffic reports. We are on the banks of a great Lake and accurate wind, rain, sun and storm information is vital to being sure you are safe on the lake. ABC13 does a wonderful job of delivering mostly accurate weather. The NBC, CBS and FOX stations fail miserably. I also like the some of the weekly ABC shows. The 2 businesses – Disney Corp and Google, Inc. are in no financial difficulties. I can access another service somewhat like YTTV. I don’t want to.
I am planning on leaving YouTube TV at the end of the month and switching to another streaming service where I can get by ABC local channel my e. Yes. PN and all the other ones they decided to take away from. Me. It’s been a customer for over 2 years. I find it a disgrace that’s two billion dollar companies can’t come to agreement to make the middle class consumers happy.
I will be leaving just before my monthly payment is due if you don’t bring back ABC!!! My friends on Utube Live are doing the same thing. You’all need to grow up. You are as bad as the government!!! 😡😠🤬
I don’t know any details of the money involved in the dispute but I have to assume Disney is asking for a significant increase. I set up my antenna and now get a crazy number of free channels. So I’m sticking with YouTube TV. Disney has lost my respect and I don’t expect them to make any changes to get it back.
I recently canceled YouTube TV and moved to Sling while keeping Hulu and Disney+.
The reason? Convenience. I was only using YT TV for ABC, so cutting it saves me $94/month.
Sometimes, small changes make a big impact!
#Streaming #CostSavings #DigitalLife
I’m tired of all of it. I want ABC and ESPN back. They also say we’ll get a $20 credit. I have yet to see it.
Put ABC and other Disney channels back on youtube tv!
I am a YouTube subscriber. I, like others, am fed up Disney. I think they’re being greedy. I thought of going to Fubo but it looks like Disney owns it so I won’t I wrote Disney and told them to fix YouTube TV contract!
The longer you are without the channels, the more you find you can do without them. I am not dropping YouTube TV to subscribe to Hulu or Fubo which only fattens Disney’s pocket. I wish I could always avoid anything Disney. I love sports, but I am not paying out my life savings to watch them.
Let them negotiate, but give us back our ABc, and espn.
YTTV is far and away superior to standard cable and better than any of the other live tv streamers. Disney/ABC is scrambling when their content isn’t keeping up with the competition anymore. Seems with so much competition for viewers, ABC has picked the losing end of the argument. Fewer and fewer people watch ABC shows and it’s so obvious Disney is trying every way possible to prop up their own attempt at live tv streaming. Hulu + a total failure and now they are trying to force people to their platform to watch their inferior programming. In the short time of the blackout I don’t miss ABC in the least. ESPN does have something to offer but so many other ways to get that content. You’ve been struggling for years. News and morning shows all the same with nbc and cbs. Can’t think of a single prime time show that is much watch tv on ABC. (Unlike nbc and cbs). So keep holding your breath until your face turns blue. Likely last few breaths left in your dying network. Bye bye abc. Better options, and I’m sure your advertisers enjoy not reaching 10 million subscribers each and every day.
I’m not leaving YouTube. I use an external antenna for ABC. From what I see, the problem is Disney. They want the market share that YouTube has. Think about it…YT is willing to refund $20 per subscriber and they have upwards of 10 million subscribers. That tells me it’s likely cheaper for YT to do that and lose a few subscribers to Disney than what Disney is trying to demand from YT in order to keep the programming.
I just cancelled YouTube TV. I loved the ability to customize my viewing channels plus having the ones I like to watch. I switched over to Hulu TV, but I do not like that you can’t customize your channel order. Also, I have noticed sound problems while viewing. Once the disputes are over, which I consider unwarranted by Disney and their cohorts, I will be switching back to YouTube TV. I just hope the price increase, if any, will not be a substantial one.
To Bob Iger and his executives, please get your act together and settle this dispute. You already make tons of money. Why ask for more. Streaming services from your other platforms that you own, are about the same price. Why mess with a good thing. For the sake of your subscribers, please put those network back on YouTube TV and settle this. Be the first to do the right thing and do what is right. Greed can come at a costs.
Absolutely ridiculous.l being a pawn in a squabble Give us back our channels. This is Corporate Blackmail. Will have to leave YouTube TV. WAKE UP.
