Whether you’re getting ready to head out on your Disney World trip or are just getting started with planning, it’s a good idea to keep up with any new laws you may need to know while traveling in Florida — especially if you plan to drive.
If you’re driving to Disney World or are renting a car once you get there, make sure you read up on these two new Florida motorist laws.
Several new laws are about to go into effect in Florida as of October 1st, 2025, but there are two that stand out as ones you might need to know about — especially if you drive to or rent a car at Disney World. While neither law will impact your trip (or at least we hope they don’t!), it’s still a good idea to be aware.
Florida’s new HB 113, or “Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Law Enforcement Officer,” increases the penalties for fleeing and eluding law enforcement, reclassifying offenses for increased severity, implementing a sentencing multiplier for repeat offenses, and establishing a mandatory minimum of three years for aggravated cases causing serious injury or death.
Hopefully, this shouldn’t be a problem, unless you plan on fleeing from the cops on your Disney World trip.
The new HB 479 also goes into effect on October 1st, and applies to “Leaving the Scene of a Crash Involving Only Damage to Vehicle or Property.” Essentially, this authorizes the court to order the driver convicted of leaving the scene of a crash to make restitution for the damage.
So, again, as long as you don’t commit any hit-and-runs while you’re at Disney World, you should be good on this one as well.
Not only that, but back in July, House Bill 351 was adopted. This bill creates a criminal offense for “dangerous excessive speeding” if a motor vehicle driver exceeds the speed limit by 50 miles per hour (mph) or more, or operates a motor vehicle at 100 mph or more in a manner that threatens the safety of other persons or property, or interferes with the operation of any vehicle.
We hope you’re not driving that much over the speed limit — everyone should have the best chance at getting to Disney World safely! Make sure you keep these new laws in mind when you’re planning on traveling to Disney World or around Florida.
We’ll be on the lookout for additional laws you might need to be aware of if you drive to Disney World. In the meantime, make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest Disney news and more.
