Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort will have you saying “Aloha” while enjoying some tropical drinks with your ‘ohana. The Hawaiian vibes take you on a relaxing getaway right by Magic Kingdom.
Guests love the tropical theming, subtle Lilo & Stitch and Moana details, and the beach. There are some great places to dine, and you can catch the Monorail right from the hotel to Magic Kingdom or the Transportation and Ticket Center to EPCOT. This is a fan-favorite resort; however, those of us who love it are starting to have a new problem with it.
Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is a great hotel, and apparently, it seems that everyone agrees lately, as it has become VERY crowded with people! This can be a bit of a bummer for anyone who is paying to stay there. It makes the hotel louder and busier than it normally would be.
Disney recently changed a major rule that anyone can park at the Polynesian to enjoy a meal at a restaurant that does not require a reservation after 2 PM. As long as there is parking available (hotel guests get priority), you can stop by for a bite to eat without a reservation.
Since the hotel is part of the Monorail loop, people can also make their way from Magic Kingdom to the Polynesian to visit the beach, gorgeous lobby, bars, and quick service restaurants. People stopping by just for a look can clog up these areas, making the resort much busier.
Another addition to this problem is the brand-new Island Tower. There are even more people at the resort now that the tower is open with more guests, diners, and visitors. The new restaurant, Wailulu Bar and Grill, boasts great food and views. It’s no wonder people want to stop by to check it out. Unfortunately, that just means more people around the hotel who aren’t necessarily staying in a room.
We completely understand why people want to stop by the Polynesian Village Resort. It’s gorgeous, has great food, and amazing views. Unfortunately, more people dropping by just for a few hours or the day can make it way busier than it would be with only guests who are staying there. This is a nice resort, but if you’re looking for something a little quieter, consider Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge or Disney’s Wilderness Lodge.

The chaos of the second floor has been miserable for years. It certainly detracts from what is a peaceful island theme. I figured the new tower would only make it worse. Resorts are supposed to be an escape from the crowds in the parks, but the Poly fails miserably in that regard.
I would guess Disney/DVC is encouraging the extra traffic at the Polynesian while they are actively selling the tower DVC rooms. Once that is sold out perhaps things will calm down a bit. All the MK resorts on the monorail suffer from this to some extent. I own at the Polynesian but still like to swing by for a drink or treat when I’m on the area so I get it.
