When packing for Disney World, your list might be getting pretty long. From bathing suits to pajamas, Mickey ears, pins, and then multiplying that by four for the whole family, the list keeps getting longer and longer. We’re here to help you cut a few items off your list.
There are many banned items from Disney World that you may already be aware of, but it’s time to leave these six items at home.
Selfie Sticks
A classic! We know how hard it is to get a family photo of everyone together, but these are not allowed. Tripods, on the other hand, are permitted, but they must fit inside a backpack and cannot exceed six feet in length. Remember to pull these out before heading through the security lines, just as you would hold out your umbrella, because the metal usually sets off the alarm.
Don’t forget to take advantage of PhotoPass Cast Members, who are usually identifiable by their bright green attire, for family photos. They’ll take them with their own cameras and your phone if you ask! You can also download ride photos on the app, which is my favorite way to document the day.
Vapes and E-Cigarettes
Sorry, folks. It’s best to leave these at home or in the hotel. If you do bring them with you, you’ll want to make sure you only smoke in the designated smoking areas, and not in the middle of the parks.
Balloons in Animal Kingdom
Due to the safety of the animals, no balloons are allowed inside the park at Animal Kingdom. If you’re coming in from another park and still have your balloon, you can leave it at Guest Relations, where they’ll take great care of it before you pick it up at the end of the day.
Plastic Straws in Animal Kingdom
In the same vein, please remember to discard your plastic straws before entering. I’m guilty of bringing in a McDonald’s Coke, and while you’re more than welcome to bring your own food and drinks (besides alcohol, of course), Animal Kingdom will require you to throw out your straw and replace it with a paper or reusable one before continuing in the park.
Toy Weapons
Regardless of the costume, you may want to skip the plastic guns and other fake weapons and leave them at home. While you’ll find plastic and foam swords inside the parks, especially at the Pirates at the Caribbean store, outside of this, security will likely stop you and ask you to put them back in the car. Don’t worry, lightsabers don’t count, and you can bring these in — just be careful about using the force.
Adult Costumes
We know you love dressing up, but costumes for adults, especially those themed to Disney Princesses, should stay in the suitcase. The only exception to this is Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, but be sure to schedule it during your party time and avoid wearing masks or toy weapons. Between you and me, these costumes can also get hot in the Florida sunshine, so sticking to shorts and t-shirts is an easier way to show off love to your favorite character.
