We love Disney Cruise Line. It’s like taking the magic of the theme parks right into a multiple-day adventure with fun characters, incredible entertainment, and we’re, obviously, huge fans of the food onboard, too.
As much as we love Disney Parks, we’re also big fans of Universal Studios. Universal’s CEO just hinted at potentially creating a cruise line, and we’re trying not to freak out!
According to the Orlando Business Journal, CEO Mark Woodbury mentioned cruising during the Bank of America Media, Communications & Entertainment Conference. He was asked about a potential new venture, including cruise ships.
“We’re always looking at every near-, mid-, and long-term opportunity to drive the business. We take a very hard look at each different industry that may be adjacent to us, where we can form another engine to drive our business. So, pay close attention to all those ancillary industries we could potentially tap into in the future, but nothing new today,” said Woodbury.
In an interview with the Orlando Business Journal, Dennis Spiegel, CEO of International Theme Park Services, told them that Universal’s catalog of intellectual properties could “translate into immersive onboard experiences, similar to Disney Cruise Line’s themed restaurants and attractions.”
Can you imagine a Universal cruise line? I would imagine that the minions would take over the food court with their bright yellow chaos, similar to Illumination’s Minion Cafe.
Maybe the onboard shows could be for properties like Back to the Future or Jurassic Park! Knowing that they already use incredible dinosaur puppets in the theme parks, I can only imagine how cool it would be on stage.
I think it would be neat if the pool areas were Jaws themed! Okay, maybe that’s a bad idea, but maybe there can be a pink and green pool to reference Wicked.
There are endless possibilities for a Universal cruise, and we hope the Universal Destinations & Experiences team is considering and planning out a cruise line. Make sure you keep following DFB for more.
