Universal and Illumination just dropped huge news about the Super Mario Bros. sequel. We just got the official title and release date of the new movie, and all we have to say about it is “YAHOO!”
The sequel to the Super Mario Bros. movie is now officially titled The Super Mario Galaxy Movie! It’s hitting theatres sooner than you think, as it’s set to release on April 3rd, 2026, according to Variety.

The brand-new animated movie takes its title from one of Nintendo’s most popular Mario games of all time, “Super Mario Galaxy,” which was released in 2007 on the Wii.

Nintendo is about to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the original “Super Mario Bros.” game, which was released on September 13th, 1985. So, they announced the movie news during a Nintendo Direct. The Nintendo Direct started off with a teaser for the sequel, showing Mario sleeping under a tree with Princess Peach’s castle in the distance. The camera pans through the Mushroom Kingdom and up into space, which then reveals the title of the next movie. Behold!
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will see the return of the all-star voice cast, including Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.

The Super Mario Bros. movie was released in April 2023 and was a massive box office success. It became the most successful video game adaptation of all time, and it wasn’t even close. The movie grossed $1.36 billion. Fun fact, it sits as the fifth-highest-grossing animated film ever!
