Disney has added a key restriction here: guests can only spend 45 minutes inside the lounge.

That’s right — this is not a place where you’ll be hanging out all night long. The rule is in place to keep crowds moving, since demand will be through the roof when it first opens. On top of that, Disney launched Advance Dining Reservations on August 20th, and a months-worth sold out in mere minutes. Translation? Treat this like you’re snagging a new ride opening. Plan ahead, set an alarm, and don’t assume you’ll be able to just stroll in.

Rule #2: Accept That Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Is Gone for a While

Here’s a tough one to swallow. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad has been closed since January 6th, 2025, and it won’t reopen until sometime in 2026. That’s a multi-year closure, which is rare for Magic Kingdom.

Disney has shared that the beloved coaster will come back with “a little bit of new magic,” but the bigger story here is what’s happening around it. Construction on the new Piston Peak Cars-themed land and the eventual Villains Land expansion means this area of the park is going to feel very different for the next couple of years. So if Big Thunder is a must-do for you, you’ll need to wait until it reopens — and maybe start getting excited about what’s coming next instead.

Rule #3: Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin Is Powering Down

Another classic is taking a break, but this one’s for a glow-up. Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin closed on August 4th, 2025 for some serious enhancements, and it won’t reopen until 2026.

When it does come back, expect an entirely refreshed experience. We’re talking new handheld blasters, interactive targets that actually light up when you hit them, and even “Buddy,” a brand-new support-bot character designed by Imagineering and Pixar.

The ride vehicles are also getting a sleek redesign with built-in monitors that track your score. Basically, Space Ranger Spin is leveling up from retro fun to modern interactive gameplay. But for now, the rule is simple: don’t count on riding it during your 2025 visit.

Rule #4: The Dumbo Playground Is Closed

If your kids love blowing off steam at the play area next to Dumbo the Flying Elephant, you’ll want to prepare them ahead of time. The playground is closed through “later in 2025.”

The ride itself is still spinning, but the play space that many families rely on for a break is unavailable. This is one of those small closures that can cause big headaches if you were banking on it for downtime. Bring a backup plan for little ones who need to get their wiggles out.

Rule #5: Say Goodbye to Tom Sawyer Island and the Riverboat

This one is permanent. As of July 7th, 2025, Tom Sawyer Island and the Liberty Square Riverboat are officially closed forever to make way for the all-new Piston Peak Cars-themed land in Frontierland.

While it’s sad to say goodbye to these nostalgic classics, the new land is shaping up to be a major expansion. Guests can look forward to a rally-race attraction, a family-friendly ride for younger kids, and a full National Park-inspired design.

Expect waterfalls, geysers, and plenty of Cars-themed details. The Walt Disney World Railroad is even being adjusted to accommodate the new footprint. The rule here? Don’t expect the Frontierland you remember. It’s in full transformation mode.

Rule #6: Plan Around Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

Seasonal events bring their own rules, and this one is a biggie. From August 15th through October 31st, 2025, Magic Kingdom closes early on party nights for regular day guests. That means if you’re visiting on one of those select dates, the park will close at 6PM, no exceptions.

The Halloween Party itself runs from 7PM to midnight, and if you’ve got a ticket, you’re in for parades, fireworks, and all the candy you can carry. But if you’re not attending? You’ll lose hours of evening park time. So make sure to check the event calendar before locking in your Magic Kingdom day, or you could be in for a very short visit.
